Distro for normal use and formatting drives

I have a spare laptop that I would like to put some distro of Linux on. The laptop has an AMD Athlon 2 Dual core and 3 yes 3 gb of DDR3 Ram. I was thinking of Ubuntu, I use Fedora on my main computer, but Id like a OS that can do what I need. For some odd reason on Fedora I cannot reform a drive that has partitions on. Unless all Distros suffer this problem, I'd like to be able to do this on any distro of Linux. Given the specs it's going to be a light distro... I don't plan on upgrading the memory. Anything would be appreciated!

Fedora should be able to that. Have you tried gparted?

To answer you question, I'm a Debian fan so I will always run to Ubuntu/Lubuntu/Debian depending on what needs to be done.

A: Lubuntu for things with little processing power, Ubuntu for normal PCs, and if you need to do anything else then it's best if you do the research yourself.

 

Q: Why is my Linux giving me x y z error?

A: Have you not googled it? Are you sure StackOverflow doesn't have an answer? Does the error tell you what's wrong? If the answer is no to all of those, message me.

Lubuntu is what comes to mind for a light distro

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Arch linux + openbox/xfce. Even lighter then lubuntu :)

Computer users fall into two groups:
those that do backups
those that have never had a hard drive fail.
