Regret getting Ryzen?

LucaValsan27

Just got a Ryzen 1600X for 250 CAD a few days ago. Its 6$ cheaper than the 1600 and about 80$ cheaper than the 8600k. Also the other i5 and i7 coffee lake models are out of stock, but after seeing some benchmarks online, it seems like Coffee Lake smashes risen in terms of gaming. i just want to game at like 1080p 60fps and i plan on getting a 1060, but if i return my risen i will have to get a 1050ti. Do you think its worth returning my Ryzen to get a coffee lake?

your 1600x will do 60fps easily don't freak out. the better GPU will be much more worth it than trading it back in to get a much weaker card

Hum might consider the 8400 1 or 2 fps behind 8600k and cost the same as a 1600 (actually I think cheaper) way better choice

So true it hurts

Keep in mind you'll also need a brand new motherboard supporting the 300 series 1151 socket and those aren't cheap either. I wouldn't return it if you're forced to go down to a 1050, even the 1050ti. If anything, invest into a water cooler if you don't have one and overclock the 1600x.

In your scenario I see no reason to leave your ryzen platform, pricing is a key part of building a pc and if the price isn't right it isn't right so go 1600x (this is coming from some who generally hates amd)

shut up that's not even true. it's not because they each built a Ryzen system to edit on at some point to test it fully that they are still really using it. fact of the matter jay commented on it multiple times and with coconutmonkey there he has more than one editing rig but there's only one AMD build. don't go spreading lies. hardware Canucks even uses finalcut pro on a macbook pro stop BS. Linus isn't paid and if you think that you really have no reason to even be on this forum

I would get a locked coffee lake chip, because I only care about performance, not whether it is intel or amd. Cough cough amdpro

That isn't a valid reason either, and it's also wrong.

(Really appricate the trolling you two, but please don't)

To LucaValsan27

Don't return the CPU;

One, a faster GPU usually means better preformance, since for mid-range computers, the GPU is usually the bottle-neck.

Two, it takes effort to return the CPU, and the store may say no (which they should be able to if they want).

If you already have it you might as well keep it. You'll get better performance from the stronger graphics card than you will from the more powerful CPU. When you're looking at benchmarks you have to remember that they most often are done with the best video card available. Digital Foundary is a good source for mid tier cards paired with CPUs during their reviews.

imo, there's no reason to switch

with Ryzen there's an actual upgrade path; the ability to go from a hex core to an octa core without changing anything but the CPU

also, Coffee Lake is nigh on impossible to find in stock, and those in stock are insanely overpriced. Plus, you'd need a new Z370 board, which will (knowing Intel) become obsolete next year, while AMD plans to support AM4 for 'four years'
