Yes I am a mod but I do not know what is going any more than any of you, but my interpretation of this would be that sure it's $3/month now, but as soon as they switch to the new site, it's going to be more, but they will grandfather in existing customers at the current price, at least until the end of their current billing period (but maybe forever) so get in while you can!

 

Once again, that's just my guess though.

A week early (give or take, sometimes ~2 weeks, sometimes same day), and no ads, and higher quality, and you can download the files, and a comments section that is forum-quality rather than youtube-quality, and probably more I'm forgetting.

yah they get some early stuff, i really dont care tbh because the important stuff is simultanious release anyway. wont get it

That could be a huge mistake if it goes over about what ever converts to €4 then floatplane to me would be a sky diving trip because I'd be parachuting off

On the one hand I want to give LTT the benefit of the doubt and assume they've done their homework about what price makes sense, but on the other, I feel like if they had actually done big market surveys we would have heard about it, so maybe they're just gonna "wing it" (because floatplane... oh god Linus is rubbing off on me xD)

 

If so, there's no promise that they are really at the sweetspot for profit, where the increased profit from raising the price doesn't cost them too many customers.

 

Considering that they probably prioritize growing the platform, at least at first, I'm surprised that they would consider changing the price at this point.

Yeah, $2.99 is a nice price for the quality and week earliness, it depends on what other channels join the club, if there are more than a few I watch I'll stay, but it's mostly 2nd rate junk I'm Byeskis

I used to subscribe to floatplane solely to support the forum but then they said that to support the forum for real it should be the bronze contribution which I felt a bit expensive so I just end up unsubscribing due to not really caring much to the videos... I love the forum but the videos are a bit meh compared to the more "serious" competition.

If there was a payment option that worked for me I would have gotten Floatplane long ago, but as it is I don't have much choice except to wait and see what the price will be when it finally does become possible.

Who/when was this?  I can't imagine anyone at LMG saying that unless they were joking.  They really do value everyone...

@PCGuy_5960 was the one who got the information from @colonel_mortis if I am not mistaken, I'd keep supporting te forum for as far as 2,99$ goes since I really enjoy it here, it's just that 5$ feels a bit pushy, I could still afford it but then I'd rather invest the 5$ on one of the many pony art artists I support in Patreon...

Ah, that makes a lot more sense in context.  I don't think he means "sure floatplane is nice but the real contributors give us $5/month" for several obvious reasons.  I think what he means is that since floatplate will soon be a separate thing, that money doesn't directly help the forum; it's for the floatplane service.  It remains to be seen if there is some kind of connection between the forum and the new site that allows purchased benefits on one to influence the other though (like being bronze here = a floatplane membership).  I would suspect so but I have no idea.

That's not quite what I meant. Currently, all the money is pooled together, but the idea is that the Floatplane money will go towards the new site, paying for videos, and other Floatplane things, whereas the contributor levels can be used a bit more widely, to do things like pay the ongoing costs of running this site. Again, it all goes into the same pot of money, but if we had no contributors (just floatplane), there would probably be more ads on the forum, whereas if we had lots of contributors and not many Floatplane subscribers then perhaps less work would be done on Floatplane.

Floatplane will separate from LMG at some point, so money spent on Floatplane would only indirectly go to the forum (by means of LMG making more money in payouts from Floatplane).

 

To be clear though, I don't deal with the distribution of funds, or have any say in that sort of thing, it's just how I interpret it.

Haven't watched WAN yet. Twitch bugged earlier today and thats where I've always watched WANs. As for continuing my subscription. That depends on multiple things. Atm I don't have steady income and I'm spending maybe €100-150 yearly to subscriptions. $40 for Tested Premium (worth it), $30 for ASC and SmartDefrag Pro's (will drop ASC this year), probably $5 for Photobucket and $30 for FPC. As FPC will be per creator, it might not be option for supporting LTT in future. There are some other content creators I feel would deserve my money more.
