I love when people bring out pronunciation "rules" that are easily foiled. Also, if acronyms were to be pronounced as the individual words, why isn't ASCVD (atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease) pronounced AH~-SCVD?

Except in that case you wouldn't be inventing a word. When you invent a word you can decide the pronunciation of it.

And why is GIF[t] anymore valid than GIN? His pronunciation is still following english conventions, therefore it's a valid pronunciation, and therefore his decided pronunciation is valid. 

 

Or if you'd like, look up English Phonics Rules. A 'G' followed by an 'i' is pronounced as a soft-g. All other pronunciations are exceptions to the rule.

Sorry, but the only reason why the creator of the GIF format says it's pronounced jif is because he's an idiot. English phonetic rules don't apply 100% when you're talking about acronyms.
