GTX 1070Ti

Techicolors

i assume everyone has heard the rumors of a 1070Ti before the end of the year. i have a 1070 for over a year, and i was curious about the Ti version. so should i sell my current 1070 in anticipation of the Ti? i'm also concerned about stock, since it might be bought up by miners as soon as it launches

How much faster do you expect a GTX 1070 Ti to be compared to a standard GTX 1070? The fact its still a 1070 class card suggests it will be slower than a GTX 1080, which is roughly 20% faster than a GTX 1070, so the performance increase will be less than 20%. Is that really worth an upgrade?

Well if nvidia lowers the prices of their cards by say $20 because of it, maybe an upgrade is now worthy in a different class

The 1070ti is very likely not a real thing. The only info we have is from an obscure store's pre-built system's spec sheet. Theres a 99% chance that it was actually a 1080ti which was labeled a 1070ti by mistake.

i wouldn;t count on the upgrade being worth it. as stated above, the performance will be below the regular 1080s' level. So if you really feel the need to upgrade you might want to sell the 1070 and get a 1080 instead. secondhand units are bound to be just as expensive or maybe even cheaper then the 1070Ti is gonna be if it ever sees the light of day.

The 1070 Ti will fall right between vega 56 and Vega 64 performance.

1070 ti won't be that much faster than a 1070 so it's really not worth it.

That would destroy 1080 sales though. I'm not sure if that would be a good idea.

Are you having any trouble with your 1070? I wouldn't recommend an upgrade this soon, even if the 1070Ti story is real. Upgrade only when you must. Keep that 1070 until it is unable to perform. If you are upgrading a gpu every year, you are just burning your money...

It would if Nvidia planned on destroying Vega's sales just for the hell of it, also its not as if Nvidia would lose money off this they would just gain less per card

There is a 1070 Ti. It's called a 1080.

I wouldn't be shocked to see NVIDIA dump some Pascal inventory as OEM "1070 Ti" cards down the line. They've done it before many times. The Fermi-based GT 730 comes to mind immediately. If it happens, it's not going to be a substantially better card than the 1070--if it's better at all.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

well my 1070 isn't like it was the few first months owning it. it's still serving me well even at 1440p but it's slowly becoming slower in that resolution

Ah then you made a poor purchase there. See you should have got the 1080 or the 1080Ti if you were hoping to be keeping it for a while at 1440p. Even then the 1070Ti will not be too big of an upgrade. But I still suggest that you wait until Volta and then get the 2080/2080Ti or whatever they want to name it.

i had a 1080p panel when i got a 1070, then got a 1440p panel. thinking of jumping to 1440p 144 or 4k 144

4k 144 would need a gpu that can handle that and may not be viable right now. You could have waited and got the 1080 if you were planning on upgrading to 1440p. And another jump from the 1440p to 1440p 144 is still too soon. If you are going to use that 1440p display for a while you must get the 1080, if you are planning it sooner, I guess your only option is 1080Ti, even that may not be enough for 4K 144Hz. What I would suggest is keep that 1070 and 1440p until Volta is out. Tinker around with graphics settings if you are getting very poor performance. Once Volta is out get the high end Ti card and then upgrade your display. That seems to be the most sensible way to me.
