Seriously Whatsthe point in a smart watch ???

What's the point ? If you already Have a phone what can do the same things on a bigger screen ? 

 

Its not not like it takes much to reach to you phone you could just put it on speaker if you want so?? 

 

Most lf them also you need your phone with you if it's a one with a SIM card .. well still you can't really go full web browsing so I don't see the point ?

 

someone like tell me the uses idk wether to bother getting one TBH ?

Lol right, nobody wants their phone reading out messages in public on speaker...

The watch is so you don't have to pull your phone out of your pocket, just turn your wrist, like when looking at the time on a regular watch.

It's more convenient. People these days are becoming more impatient have developed to be socially inept. A smart watch provides something that - hey, you can flick your wrist! and you get all of your notifications, and also, it allows humans to escape from a potentially awkward situation, as others don't see that obsession is a problem.

So you can read a text message in a meeting,for use as a sports tracker, a quick way to look at notifications,some help you to find your phone etc...

I don't understand tho I mean notifications like what ones ? I hardly get any maybe that's why I ain't seeing the point possibly ?

By enabling the user to flick their wrist and see any text messages they may have received in a past period of time, it saves them to effort of taking out their phone.

Emails, SMS's,Messaging platforms, sports app messages....etc... 

Some people get tones of notifications because they can't miss anything.

But then you can't respond unless you have to type on a small screen or talk out your message wich I wouldn't want again idk some people may not care and it's also a lot of money just to see that well I am talking about major smart watches not 10$ ones I guess

Looks nice (well some do, I love my Zenwatch 3), some people have a watch anyways so why not make it "smart", and it is useful in school or certain situations where you don't got the time to look at your phone and stuff. And I find that watches are better activity trackers (unless of course your watch doesnt have HR abilities but your phone does like me lol...) I just find it convenient now that school started I use it alot, but tbh during the summer I didnt use it that much. Really dependent on you and how you spend your time.

Yeah, but is often not as accurate and some watches monitor your sleep, which is a thing for me, a phone can't do that. Its also good to see a text message when your hands are full.

All watches will allow canned (premade by you) messages while others, like the Gear and Apple Watch, allow you to type or write your responses straight from the watch.

What would you rather:

• getting a notification on your phone, telling you your son has been hit by a car, but only hearing the notification sound and dismissing it

or

 

• Seing the notification on your watch and having to take out your phone to respond.

Neither, get a Fossil or Apple Watch and type your text from your wrist.

this, and because you can also customize what comes to your watch it can save battery. you don't need to pull your phone out for every notification to find out what it was.

The new apple watch will have LTE so it can be used without a phone. Much cooler IMO. But the only reason I see it useful is the health part that logs everything to nice graphs on your phone.

I just ordered a Xiaomi Mi band 2 for 30 euros on Amazon. I want one because, it looks nice, I can check the time without taking my phone out of my pocket and I get a notification when getting messages. That's pretty much it. Just a regular watch. Almost.

To me, the point of smartwatches is purely theoretical. As it stands they're very expensive novelties -Sure they're convenient, but not that much more convenient than a phone, even if you actually use it.

 

I was very excited about the Neptune Pine, what I'd consider a 'real' smartwatch, but that thing obviously didn't turn out well. I'd love to see something a little bigger, maybe like a low-profile gauntlet with flagship smartphone specs and a massive battery taking up the bulk of the strap. Like a modern pip-boy -Or, hell, maybe even vortex-manipulator-style.

I use a smartwatch everyday and I really hate not having it on me when it needs to charge for a half hour. I get a lot of notifications and lot of them I don't need or want to respond to immediately. So rather than having to pull out my phone constantly I can just glance at my watch and make a decision based on that. 

 

I would like to replace it with a nicer looking/more professional watch, but I just don't want to give up that convenience.

Fossil watches might be a good choice for you on Android.

I mostly use mine (when I wear it) to control music and check messages and emails when they come in. While I can use dictation to reply to things, it's not really what it's intended for. I get a lot of emails and texts that I want/need to read but don't need to reply to quickly or at all. For that it's very useful rather than having to reach for my phone, risking dropping it when walking or having my hands busy or at somewhere like a restaurant where it's rude to get out my phone to look at email and texts. 

 

I find I forget to charge it quite a lot so I don't wear it too often. It's really not an essential device and doesn't actually add any functionality that can't be done on a phone, it just makes some things easier and/or quicker. I know some smartwatches are coming with NFC now to support contactless payment, but putting the face of the watch to a payment terminal isn't a very natural feeling movement. NFC in a ring or somewhere else on the hand would be more convenient.

I'm on iOS and currently using the Pebble Time Round. I really like that it's very thin (whereas basically all other smartwatches are pretty bulky) and that it lasts 48 hours. Having to charge it once every two days is fine, but I think having to charge it every day (which is what most of the fossil watches are) would get pretty annoying. 

 

I am curious to know how Android Wear 2.0 is with iOS though.

Phone is on the charger, acting as the portable wifi. I could view and reply to texts while sitting at my desktop.

Or just get a Mac and an iPhone (or use one of the numerous crappy applications for Android and Windows/Mac OS).
