What can my old rig still do?

flibberdipper

Well, I'm in the progress of rebuilding my old toy, and I was wondering if it was really good for much of anything, these days. Specs are below, and feel free to give me your honest thoughts. Folding is out of the question, since it would kill the PSU I have, since I have to wiggle room left (5.4 watts :o), and I'm NOT getting another one, since my current rig is far more efficient on a single core and uses far less power.

ASUS P4V8X-X

Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz Hyper-Threaded

ATI Radeon X1650 Pro 256MB AGP 8X

1x1GB DDR 400MHz, 2x512MB DDR 266MHz RAM (for a total of 2GB, running in 266MHz mode)

WD1600AAJB 160GB HDD

WD1200BB 120GB HDD

SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 Digital

And....

Okay, no Vista. Maybe a Hackintosh.

Fold. Do it.

I'm not going to spend money on it when my new rig is ready, waiting to be used. It's pointless, and my new rig easily gets double what my old one does on a single core, without the GPU folding.

I would just throw it away.

Unless you are up for paying a fortune in electricity for no benifit, then you could fold on it.

I planned on getting an LGA 775 motherboard, and a Core 2 Duo or Quad, with something like my video card, and using that. Eventually. Or, if I save up enough money to make a new rig for my self, I'll make it do it. But 300-500PPD and a much higher electric bill... Nah. And the stupid fan is dying, and I'm NOT dropping $10 on another one.

Minecraft

I was running that game back in the day on a P4 (3.2Ghz) with an Nvidia 6800GT BFG OC edition 256MB (that's an agp card)

That card still runs btw :D

Mine doesn't like Minecraft. :( 15 FPS on a good day.

I could always throw my old GTA collection on it. Never thought of that. And watch movies loudly over the damn fan.

Use it for a network server or use it for a media center.

That's possible. If I can get the drivers to work under Vista I could use my 120GB drive just for network storage.

Change settings... I could run in a 9250 at 45 FPS at tiny render distance, also install windows 7 would be better than vista (and your GPU can handle it)

I did. Trust me, I did everything I could to try and make it run.
