240hz 1080p vs 165hz 1440p

Crimson2OP

First one 24.5", latter is 23.8".
Competitive cs go player, BUT i do enjoy playing games casually with friends at times so i thought 1440p would be nice.

Both are TN panels with G-Sync so dunno how good would that 1440p res feel.

I'm getting a 1080ti soon tooFirst one 24.5", latter is 23.8".

23.6" is awfully small...

Why not grab the 27" off eBay if you're going with a Dell monitor? (Assuming that's what you're looking at).

Listen guys i have to choose between 2 specific models because: 1) G-Sync 2) I have to buy from my country or else taxes are high as fuck, u see.

My options are Dell Gaming S2417DG 23.8'' (1440p&165hz) for 606$ or the 1080p&240hz one, Asus PG258Q 24.5'' 700$ in a *sale*.

I got a evga 1080 ti and Asus 1440p@165hz. And i can recommend it. And i came from 1080p@144hz, i personnaly woudnt choose for 240hz @1080p unless your really into hardcore competitive. But then a 1080ti woudnt make sense either.

guess you're right the 1080ti wouldn't make sense, but would 1440p look as good on a TN Panel with supposedly bad colors? that's something im worrying about cause i can't recall ever owning a TN monitor b4.

Pretty hardcore, but wouldn't 165hz be alright even for pro cs?

I'd go with the Dell personally.

Yeah 165hz is more then enough. Heck some pro's still even use 120hz. And im GE, it took like few hours to get use to 1440p. After that youl be owning like before. And its really nice in other games like you said. And TN is fine with colors, they have come a long way. And it has lower input latency, thats something you want with competitive gaming instead of a IPS. I was even shocked how good Overwatch looked like with colors wise, and i didnt even calibrate it that good since i dont care about colors.

And with TN you have to be in front of it, but thats something you're going to do a lot with cs:go and crosshair staring. Personally i could go back to 144hz, the 20 extra refresh rate is nice. But not neccesary. But i dont think i would wanna go back to 1080p, i could and still do. But i rather not.

Good luck with picking. I can recommend the Asus, but from i what ive heard Dell aint that bad either. I also personnaly really like the FPS counter(gsync counter) on the Asus monitor. So you can see when gsync is active or not and at what fps/rate. So its perfect with casual games, and for csgo i just use the csgo fps command since the fps is over the gsync range.

Science Studio made a pretty good video about the monitor i have:

id go for 1440p 165Hz unless you are actiually playing CS:GO for a living lol

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)
