13-inch Macbook Pro Touchbar (2017) Turn On Issue

This laptop is about a month old. According to Apple the laptop can be turned on by opening the lid.

The problem is I often find the laptop doesn't turn on when I open the lid. I encountered this 4/5 times. So, it's not that frequent.

Each time this happened, I plugged in the charger and immediately opened the lid, the laptop didn't turn on. To turn it on, either I had to press the touch ID/power button or close the lid and open it again.

I was just wondering if others have encountered it. Googled it, couldn't find anything on it.

My 2012 MacBook Pro does that all the time, even after multiple SMC resets. Just open the laptop and tap the space bar or trackpad, and wallah, should be good.

yeah that happens to me too

Haven't had mine white screen before. Strange. Of course, if the OP is really worried, he can swap MacBooks with me...

sudo nvram AutoBoot=%03

Try giving that a shot I guess? Seems to be the only thing I can find that might fix it.

I have a 2010 unit and according to apple, I did "unauthorized repairs", also known as fixing my hard drive situation my replacing it with a SSD

I've got an SSD and 16GB RAM as well. And since when is replacing an HDD "unauthorized repairs"?

Well I suppose no other OEM fixes stuff after you drop it repeatedly, so they get a free pass there.

It's not like I'm trying to wake it up from sleep. The laptop was completely shut down.

Uuummm... then you turn to on? It's supposed to wake from sleep, not from a complete shut-down. You always push the power button to turn stuff on.

These newer models are supposed to turn the machine on when someone opens the lid.

??? I'm not using dark theme if that's what you mean.

I never changed the NVRAM. Value "03" should be set by default.

Weird. Well, I guess you'll have to stick with the good 'ole power button for the time being.
