Good songs in 2017?

From the old topic about racism.

 

The counter argument to that is that the word "black" as a racial description doesn't carry the same historical weight as the word "nigger". 
While the intend of the words is, of course, what matter the most, the intend can easily be (falsely or otherwise) infered from the historical meaning of a word. 
Traditionally, when caucasian used the word "nigger" as a description of African-American they didn't mean it just a racial description, they meant as a determing factor in a descriminatory system. 

The same historical weight is not placed on black people using the word, since they adopted it as an internal, non-discriminatory describtion.

The counter argument to the counter argument will be that very few African-Americans living today have been affected by things like Jim Crow or other racially motivated descrimination, meaning tha they shouldn't really consider the historical context of the word. 

Edit: Also, this thread will more than likely be locked as the Community Standards prohibits discussions of sensative topics

The most simple answer I can give is, if you use that word, you're being discriminative of black people. If black people use it, they're being discriminative of black people. Being racist to your own kind does not necessarily make it any more acceptable. But then again, I personally don't really care, it's a word that constantly appears within the competitive game community, I don't really see it as an offensive terms as I am completely apathetic to identity politics or activism of any kind,

There's good new music every year. But there's also tons of "bad" music every year. Comes down to what genres you personally enjoy.

By what standard are you determining that?

Once I was trying to find good new music to listen to. Basically the only song, from the popular end, that I liked and seemed original, was "Something just like this". I don't have a specific standart, but the main criteria, is for the tune to be catchy, and song has to be original, not some kind of trash love/breakup song. 2016 had some awesome songs (i think), like Panda, Heathens, and some decent ones, like Closer and Don't let me down. Now I am listening to some older songs, like Fireflies, 21 guns. I am asking for some not SO popular great songs, because it's a bit harder to find them.

well it all depends on your taste. I don't like the new stuff tbh and most of what is the next "hit" sounds more or less the same to me. I'm quite old school, give me a guitar with no plug and i can make music for the next two hours. That's why my taste still sits in the 60s/70s blues/rock mixed with a little bit of funk and old jazz standards. add some random other songs i like from quite a wide variety of genres from pop to metal and you have my music library.

I will agree that the pop charts (atleast in the US) have been rather stagnate this year. 

I don't even know how long it's been since there was a serious change in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. 

 

In the pop music realm there has only been one release that has really wow'ed me this year

 

There have been good pop(ular) songs this year, but they seem to either not enter the Hot 100 or they'll enter and then quickly fall off. 

 

Edit: The new Calvin Harris album is also pretty good
