A video idea that's good

Alright, Linus if you happen to read this, I know a lot of people probably suggest this, but why not actually do it?

 

Make a video completely building a PC from the start, pretend the person has never seen a computer before and is 5. Go slow and explain everything, have variants for different people.

Show everything you do after it's built, like installing windows 10, drivers, any anything else you might need after you've built it. Make it a long video, people will watch it. Show troubleshooting if it doesn't post after you turn it on, show the right tools to use. 

 

Explain everything

 

Show how to install a system with 2 drives, show how to download windows, show how to format a drive, do it all. Make it good and show how you unscrew the drive cages, how you plug in the PSU. 

 

People will like the video, and you will get many many views.

There are thousands of these on youtube already... Jayztwocents did one with his daughter building the PC and teaching here.. I would suggest that one as a video to watch.

That's a 10 minute video explaining almost nothing, a person building their first PC would find no use from that video.

If you gave your grandma that video could she build pc? no we want something to point people to when they ask how do i build a pc? As of now we are stuck with go watch ltt

eh 3 hours max any thing longer is too much for a ton of people

anything over 45 minutes is too long. And they already did a complete build guide in 2013

I watched a 15 minutes vidoe for the first time while building my PC. Never touched ma PC before that and it went 100% flawlessly.

 

If you mean build as in pick the parts that's best for the budget or your needs. Well just learn about the tech its self. Google grapcis cards and the architecture and all that to learn aboutbit 

 

Don't have someien do the research then tell you. That's just a lazy person, if you really interested you'll have no problem learning it on your own from books or the internet.

 

Your just seem like a young person who is used to everyone doing everythibg for them

Look if this is the kind of video you need, maybe building your own pc isn't for you. It can take initiative and problem solving to build a good computer, with the proper parts. I don't mean this offensively, mind you. It's perfectly OKAY to not build your own.

 

At a certain point you have to just dive into it. No build guide will ever be able to cover every possible use case, every purchasing dilemma, every problem you might encounter, etc. A curious mind is important, not a build guide. There are many on this forum who never had a build guide for their first. Just a bunch of parts and a Windows disc. I'm not saying it's better that way, I'm just pointing out that maybe all you need is a little confidence. No one will get everything right their first build, and I think every tech youtuber has said this at some point.

 

Have a little faith in yourself, and if you're not ready for this yet buy a pre-built and cut your teeth by upgrading it in the future.

I'm not saying I need it, I'm just saying it would help make PC building less indimidating for newcomers and a place to point people to. It might be easier for some people but for others seeing all of those expensive computer components with all those wires and screws and having something that can show them step by step how to do it would be great, they'll realize it isn't that hard and May build more in the future having the confidence that they can do it.

basically what he wants is something that can act as a good starting point to point newbs to when they ask you how can I get into building pcs. right now we are stuck saying go watch ltt 2013-2015 (now their videos are awfull for beginners)

If you are told everything to do where is the learning aspect? Make mistakes and learn from them. No one told the first guy how to do it

This would be tedious to do as single video. Better would be written format (which I used as base of reference when first building back in 2005-2008). That could link and explain in much more detail than video. Imo watching someone scrolling around some sites isn't that informative or interesting, but I might be old fashioned in that sense. I do prefer written reviews on things like GPUs and CPU coolers over videos because I can examine graphs in detail and compare systems used as base.

 

As I wrote in another thread where this came up. Process of building hasn't changed at all from time I learned it. It has become somewhat easier with mobo cutouts and clear ways to put in thermal paste (the guide I used told to spread it with discarded credit card). So why remake all build log-style videos ever made? As for selecting parts. Thats tricky bit, and not something I would put in video either. Not in any sort of video with label "GUIDE". Reason being that anything said will be valid in single region and for very short period only. New builder will most likely follow anything with "GUIDE" in title to detail and end up with overprices or old parts. I've seen this happen with few new builders who have posted in here too. While same principle applies to OS and software setup, I think those are parts which handle time best. Even the Win8 installation guide Linus made for NCIX can be used as reference for Win10.

 

So one enormous video is just not worth it. A shorter video linking to other videos with strong talking about being subjective when making decisions and comparing products (I can't believe I'm saying next part) as educating new builders about how to read reviews, product pages and manuals could be better if this was ever made. And as such I wouldn't let LMG to touch the subject with 100m long HDMI cable. Not after catastrophe that was last build log video.

This is totally unnecessary, I watched the 2-3 hour videos of Linus build log and Paul's hardware build log.

 

I don't know what more can one explain, how much more detail do you want?

 

When I was building my absolute first computer, there was no such video, I was just reading written guide found randomly on Google.

 

I only knew CPU goes into CPU socket, RAM sticks go into RAM slots, SATA cables go into SATA ports, and I just put them in lol.

 

Living in 2017, you only need basic internet and googling skills to easily find out how to do this. 

 

Just imagine writing an essay for your class, you have to do your own research and build the essay yourself. Spoon-feeding, hand-holding will only result in laziness and the inability to do anything complicated in the future.
