USB power supply to be able to put out 2A on 5M cable

Teletha

So i have my soundlink II from bose that have a nice docking station i've routed a 5M long usb extension cable to it and im using a samsung phone usb power supply that outputs 2A but it just isn't enough for that length im not that great with calculating electrics but is there anyway i can get a stronger power supply that can out put at least 1.6A on a 5M usb cable

You can get 28/24AWG cables that have large positive and negative conductors to offset some of the loss through resistance.

I usually just extend the mains side of the power supply rather than the DC side via an extension cable

Agree, as I've found little to none competent USB cables, have tried many different ones and they seem to be non-existent after a certain length. I could've been unlucky I guess, but have tried many chargers and cables and the best ones I have found are QC 2/3 chargers, and upto 2M length cables is all... and the best of them are usually the ones that come with devices. I have a shield k1 tablet and it requires around 2.1-2.4 amps to charge and use at the same time, if the cables or charger isn't good enough you get lag when trying to use it. At the moment I am using Anker QC 3.0 charger and a phone charger cable. I also use a Aukey quick charge 3.0 and an Aukey QC 2.0 one, all of those chargers output enough voltage, it;s finding the cables that will allow that much charge that are the problems, I do also have some Aukey cables though that are quite good, but only upto about 2/3 metres.

So, if you ahve the option it is much simpler as above said, to extend the mains with a multi-socket extension.

Oh, and just so you're being safe... if you are already using a muti-socket, if you want to extend that, just use a 1 gang extension, so you don't overload the sockets and cause a fire or something.
