@LinusTech One can try. Just file a report over the misuse and see what happens. Even though it is the BBC, they should still be held accountable. I understand there is the potential financial/legal battle that could ensue that you would not be able pursue with out help [financially] but taking the time to at least file the complaint may turn up some results, surprisingly. 

Nothing gained if not tried, only loss when not trying.

Not that I agree with what the BBC have done but according to UK law copyright does not apply in a work of parody/satire. The only way to fight it would be if LTT and UK courts deemed it derogatory or to be direct competition in the tech media world.

Considering they only use a few seconds of footage, it most likely fall under fair use. It would be bad if they had used entire segments of the video, but as it is, it's barely a few seconds of it.

I couldn't be arsed to find the true documentation of fair use laws, from the UK or Canada, so here's some guidelines for youtube

I suppose as Linus himself even said there isn't much you can do. To be fair though, it would've been nice to at least give credit to Linus and the team if they were going to use their footage. People are like the government, Robbing b*****ds xD

It's fair use, it adds to the video, but it isn't the main focus of that video. It also uses very little of their video.

I agree that they probably should have asked pemission for the video, but they also don't have to, and Linus hasn't stated if they have or haven't asked for pemission for the video either.

2) Why do people want the video taken down? It's not hurting anyone. Stop encouraging this abuse of the copyright law we see on sites like YouTube. If Linus had gone after BBC, trying to get the video taken down, because they used a few seconds of footage in a parody video then I would have been more disappointed in Linus than ever before. It is seriously shocking that so many people on this forum are seriously saying the video should be taken down, or that Linus should sue. Then in another thread I am sure a lot of the same people will complain that the YouTube copyright system is broken...

Its fair use. YouTube is not a network, theres really nothing you can do to prevent people from using your footage elsewhere.

 

Its also the BBC. State funded pockets across the pond, good luck have fun trying to sue them for anything if you really wanted to take it that far. This is the BBC that has enough bankroll that their shows are allowed to shit over any and all companies because they don't need the ad money. In the hilarious world that LTT tried to sue BBC, BBC would find cause to countersue back so hard, Linus would be saying God save the Queen on the hour every hour while paying off the legal bills much less any damages for harassing the BBC...
