GF's PC took a crap, PSU killed one of two ram sticks?

It had an EVGA 400w cancerbox as a PSU, and it died after literally four days. Nothing would happen when I jumped green and black, not even a 5v standby was on.

 

When I went over to service it, I brought a spare secondhand CX500 (no, I'm not trying to start a fire, its better than a diablowup unit) This whole PC was built from stuff I had lying around, its got an i5 2500 and a GTX 770.

 

And it works again with the CX500, after removing one of the two sticks of RAM. One stick literally refuses to POST no matter what slot, and the other one works fine in any slot, passes memtest, etc

 

 

Has anyone had something like this happen before?

And I have a CX600 in my mom's PC for almost 6+ years, nothing wrong with it and no it's does not blow up when used under the right conditions.

A computer works in mysterious ways, sometimes there are no explanation for it. I've literally seen a dead psu frying every component one at a time, every time the power button was pressed.
