Static pressure fans (Q)

WereCat

Are SP fans better for sucking air trough meshes and dust filters over AF fans?

Or are they just better for pushing air trough restrictions?

I would think it doesn't really matter.  If it is capable of creating a positive pressure out the front it means it has to be creating an equally negative pressure out the back.

Different meshes and filters provide a different amount of restriction. All fans have some degree of both static pressure and airflow and where the line is drawn as to determine whether a fan is SP or AF is arbitrary. A fan designed for more static pressure will often sacrifice airflow or acoustics to do so.

How much static pressure is needed depends on how restrictive the environment will be and you generally want as much airflow as possible and enough static pressure.

Linus did a video on Static Pressure / High Airflow fans which you can check out below.

@JayzTwoCents also went deeper and explained the fans, configurations, and showed demonstrations if the video from Linus wasn't long enough.
