PC Gore thread/it just werks™

Keg Ops

I know some of you have really shabby looking builds that don't look pretty, and this thread is for you! Post your atrocity of a computer along with the story behind it.

- I wanted a PC that would run Windows XP

- too intelligent to pirate

- saw a $20 Dell XPS 200 for sale in an app

- brought it home

- blinking orange light

- turns out PSU rekt itself because the case has poor ventilation.

- remember I had a spare PSU in an old dell that had a dead motherboard (ATX PC)

- Hooked it up to my PC, bent some of the metal case prongs on the side and slid the cables though.

- it just werks

Not very pretty but I ain't about to spend more money on a PSU then I did on the PC it's going to be used in (or this case on).

oof caught me right before I could edit

I upgraded the ram from one GB to three, and I installed Fedora on it to dual boot. Gaming is a no go on it, as the only game I got working on my steam library is the original Counter Strike. Might buy a $10 gpu in there for fun if I come across one (although granted it needs to be very small to fit in my case).

None of y'all have seen janky till you've seen my old home server.

I had this thin custom case from a hobby shop, with the mobo mounted on nothing. Used a momentary switch to shock the pins to keep the thing on, and ventilation was done through a heatsink fan glued to the top of the case, and we made holes with a fucking drill. On top of this, the PSU didn't fit in the hobby case, so it was hanging out the back plugged into the wall.

And then I moved.

And then the mobo died.

And then I got a new fresh RMA unit from Intel and shoved it in a case with my shitty Basiq 350W PSU

idk

none of you have seen shit untill you have witnessed the LAN PC 3.0(i think). GOD DAMN THAT THING WAS SCREWED UP! i dont think i have many pictures of it if any, but check out the LAN PC thread if you care to see it.

case is an old as hell Dell server thing

it opens god damn sideways and its cool as hell

had to quite litteraly RIP out the old motherboard and the mount for the cooler that went into the case

motherboard mounted with one screw, some cardboard and a bunch of electrical tape on some studs

display cables had to be pushed throught the PCI cutouts

USB stuff had to be pushed through the IO plate from the old motherboard because you couldent remove it

power button was a few wires going into a breadboard with a momentairy switch on it

i knew the motherboard was a bit screwed in some way seeing as RAM slot 1 was dead and it kept overclocking the CPU whenever it booted

took it to a LAN party, brought another PC because i KNEW it would die, and it did after about 2h

motherboard had scratched up the back against a motherboard standof

sold motheboard and CPU for $350 (I5 680 and some shitty MATX board) which is just crazy

there was so many things with it that were janky as hell, the motherboard MOVED AROUND when transporting the case, you couldent open the case after i installed the power button, the case didnt close either, the GPU idk how it didnt just fall out or something

still got the case sitting around in my room lol

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

So... Yeah I went to upgrade my machine this week. Received a new Mobo/CPU/RAM and went at it and discovered a PROBLEM(TM).

Turns out my GPU with it's custom aftermarket cooler wouldn't fit in the top PCIE slot so I moved it down to the bottom.. and it wouldn't let me put the HDD cage back in so now... well...

So I'm stuck like this until I get a new videocard and case setup for myself but that's life :)

haha thanks :)

It's actually really convenient as it lets me know really easily which HDD has which cable and into which socket I plug it into. The SSD in the back has the black cable of course :D

Oh and the blu-ray drive isn't hooked up at all and I've pretty much forgotten about it lol.

Very nice :)

for me it was a total accident, I just got different cables over the years from different motherboards. The blue are gigabyte I think, the red from a HDD kit and so on :)

I was thinking someone should do a waterjet through a CPU, but I reread the title and thought they should waterjet through a pc.

There are people on YT that do that.

And Linus should do an episode on that.

It is my idea and I take credit for it if he does it.

This is my time stamp, as proof.
