2 Graphics Cards not in SLi

FeralWombat

Hello everyone,

I have a question that even after googling, I didn't get much of an answer. I was thinking about adding a secondary graphics cards (I have a gtx 650 stored away) to power a second monitor; as far as I know this card isn't sli compatible, and that wasn't my aim anyway. I'm also not interested in using it as a physx unit, so really only to power a second monitor so as that my main graphics card is only powering my main monitor where my games will be running. I know this is possible from a technical perspective, it's been done before, what I'm not sure is if my psu will handle it. My current setup: intel 6600k, a gtx1060, 8g ram (single dim), 1x ssd and 1x mechanical drive. the psu in question is a Corsair cx500 80plus bronze. I cannot recall my mobo's exact model, it's an asus z???? (I can get the exact model if it's needed, yes it has enough expansion slots)

I would rather not change the psu as I feel the one currently on my system is doing its job, I may consider selling the gtx650 and get a low power graphics card, as long as it can work at 1080 (the second monitor won't do anything gpu heavy). Your thoughts are most welcomed :)

Yes, you can use it just fine. Or just use the iGPU on your i5 6600k.

How many monitors are you using that you can't just use the ports on the 1060 or your iGPU?

That's an F in the profile pic

It will work, no real reason to do it though. But it will be fine either way

The other one will be idle the entire time so it wont matter. But I assume doesn't have an extra power connector for it. Still best to use the single card.
