So the simple question is: should I upgrade from 8gb RAM to 16gb?

I game and I do some work, and the mainly reason I'm asking this is because yesterday I had nothing to do and I decided to run shaders on minecraft. Then I noticed that the RAM was being used at its limit, which concerned me. The fps also were stupidly low (around 20).

Tell me if I should upgrade my RAM, viewing all the aspects (work and gaming).

If you have the money then yeah, your computers looks as if it will last a while and RAM base usage is allways increacing so it might help the future proofing.

Quick question; One, do you suffer from chrome tabs syndrome [so many tabs opened it starts crashing and being slow]

Two; What graphics card do you have, as specific as possible please.

Once you've awnsered those i should be able to help.

i like it because i can have basically unlimited browser tabs, two games, spotify and two instances of Discord running at once without being too close to my cap

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

When you say it's hitting the limit, do you mean including cached data? Because you don't need more if data is being cached.

As far as I can tell atleast, the problem may be your VRAM, now im not saying you should get a better Graphics card, but i suggest you try and update drivers. According to the shaders site it uses mainly VRAM.

Also, have you tried setting more ram to minecraft?

[Word shouldnt suffer from lack of ram xD]

I have noticed that several games I play inc VR App's now go over 8GB RAM use - on their own let alone running anything else same time.

16GB RAM and SSD is advised for the full range of gaming inc VR in my opinion.

I have like 4GB for Minecraft and it doesn't even use 2GB. The VRAM isn't obviously the problem, because the GPU usage is less than 30% on Minecraft so yeah. I don't even play Minecraft, but I decided to try shaders and I thought that it was very weird hitting ( ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ) only 20 fps.

VRAM isnt included on the task manager, Thats just the Graphics chip (so to say) not the actual ram.

Oh my god I'm so stupid lmao. I'm going to run MSI Afterburner and see how much VRAM is being used then.

To be honest, and this is my final shot, it might be [this is quite unlikely] but it is possible that its your processor, or your graphics card thats the issue, thats certainly the case when i try to run shaders with minecraft ;)

for example a game can address all the vram on a rx 580 8gb and it will look like it uses 8gb of vram, but when you test a 580 4gb it also addresses all the vram but the performance is the same
