hottest running video card ever?

i'm doing a lava/magma themed build using some of the hottest running components ever brought to the market. i'm using the hottest running consumer cpu, the fx 9590. but i'm stuck on what the hottest running video card is. some cards that come to mind are the gtx 480, radeon 6990, and r9 290x. the asus dcu3 fury looks cool and runs hot as well. i am thinking for going for that, but are there any other options? i would like to keep it relatively quiet. so jet fan coolers of the gtx 480 and r9 290x are out. dual or triple fan coolers only. i also have a thing for big cards, so if there are any triple slot beasts out there that run hot, i'm open!

OS: Win10 Pro x64 | CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X | GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6900XT | MB: ASUS X570 Tuff | RAM: 32gb G.Skill Ripjaws V 3600mhz | Bootup: Adata 1tb NVME Gen4 | SSD: Intel SSD6 P600 1tb | HDDs: 16tb total | PSU: Seasonic 1200w 80+ Gold | Cooling: Noctua NH-D15 | Case: Voodoo Omen R (yes, THAT Voodoo) | Screen: Acer XF270HU 1440p 144hz FreeSync | total spent: $too much | (lol empty space)

Gotta go with the good ol gtx 480 :P

EDIT: Just saw you say it has to be quiet :/

But usually if it's quiet it has a decent cooler and doesn't run hot :/

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Take 290X and run it without the cooler. Guaranteed to be both hot and silent.

gtx 480 is garbage, much as i love that card( it was my first ever high-end card, worked really hard for it), i have to say its garbage in almost every aspect, from hot temps to throttling in some games.

In my experience ASUS 7300GT (one with passive cooling), quiet but gets really toasty if you run furmark :P
Im pretty sure there are modern models with passive cooling and im pretty sure they can go lava if you leave furmark long enough :D

Just found this article http://graphicscardhub.com/best-passively-cooled-graphics-card/ i bet that passive 1050 would get toasty when overclocked.

i've been thinking... would an arctic accelero extreme 4 fit on a fury x? that would be big, toasty, and still good performing.

7970 is the hottest I've screwed with, and that card was hot as hell.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

I'd rather liquid cool an overclocked 7700K and 290X that way you don't make a pc that is total trash

from what i can tell the fx 9590 performs about the same in games as the ryzen 5 1400, and slightly beats it in productivity.

right now on newegg a 1400 is 170. i was able to score the 9590 with an asus sabertooth fx990 r2 and a cm hyper 212 evo for the same price of 170. i already have 8gb of ddr3 and an h105 cooler. i just needed a case, psu, and now i'm still searching for the video card. i'm thinking i may go with an asus 7970 dcuii for the triple slot cooler.

  • 1 year later...

wooo hoooo, dont you expect me appearing xD

here done with the intro, r9 290x triple fan gpu as same as mine.

buy a blower style r9 290x and slap a Arctic accelero xtreme 3. with no airflow design, it would recycle half of its hot air cuz it's exhaust hits the side pannel. it would get REAL toasty as you wish. its hot hair cooks my 3770k at 63c with a hipper 212. its 290w power consumption isnt enough? get some overclocking going!

msi afterburner +44 on vcore, 50% power limit, 1100mhz core, 1600 mhz on men(if theres cooling on the vram, not like the asus direct cu2), there you have it, 365w from your psu and massive amounts of heat dumping into your case. god for winters, ass for summers.

done

take my recommendation.

My GTX 480 SLI could heat a house (it certainly did my room in no time! Would raise it 15*C easily after gaming for a bit, esp with the door closed its even worse.)
