cf 580 vs 1070

which is better? i was thinking cf 580 as its cheaper.

but i was thinking 1070 because then i can sli down the line with another 1070 as mobo's only have 2 slots nowadays

Multi gpus don't always scale well and Nvidia has better drivers so I'd go 1070 tbh

More powerful single card is typically better as CF/SLI was many issues (Increased power consumption, scaling issues, poor support in games if any at all, ect). Just get a single 1070.

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

gamesl ike bf1 and bf4 scale nearly 100% on more than 1080p resolutions

That's just one engine, tons of other games not made with Frostbyte run like shit on xfire or sli (if at all)

Beside a single 1070 can handle anything you throw at it at 1080p and 1440p so no point in getting a mobo to support xfire, getting a decent PSU, dealing with the extra heat (over double the TDP) just get a single 1070 or 1080.

My only advise is look for a 1080 because some of them can be found on sale at almost 1070 prices by now.

$60 more for the 1080 is definitely worth it. A 1080 is 20-30% faster than the 1070

no but the thing is i would really want to upgrade my gpu later but buying a whole new one t replace would be more expensive and just sli the 1070 would be better as the price will drop and i get about a 60-70% improvment

is i get a 1080 then i have to spend more as you can only sli the same gpu

If you want to get a 1070, don't get a top of the line one.

First of all, what resolution and refresh rate is your monitor?

Here are my suggestions:

1080p 60Hz - RX 480/580 or GTX 1060 6GB

1080p 144Hz or 1440p 60Hz - GTX 1070

1080p 144+Hz or 1440p 144Hz or 4K 60Hz - GTX 1080

4K 144Hz - GTX 1080TI

Desktop specs:

Asrock Challenger Pro OC Radeon RX 6700 XT Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (8Gx2) 3600MHz CL18 Kingston NV2 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD

No, the issue with getting 2 1070s is you will be spending nearly $100 more and risk getting WORSE performance. Some games can scale well with SLI but some can actually lose performance. Its typically better just to get a single more powerful card. You other option you have if you can wait, VEGA could be very promising.

but only with the cheap plastic covered coolers that dont perform very well

Lel.  The 1080 Windforce costs $500 and it has an amazing cooler. @i_build_nanosuits has one and it doesn't get hotter than 70C under load. And even a blower/cooler reference 1080 will be 20-25% faster than a 1070.
