Can my old PC support a GTX 1050ti with a 300W PSU?

PCilliterate

So i'm wondering if i'll be able to upgrade just the videocard of my current desktop pc without worrying about anything else. I know I should upgrade the PSU and i probably will sometime down the line but ideally i'd like to be able to do just this for now.

I'm using the acer aspire m3910 (G)

I5 650 CPU

1050ti (hopefully)

4 gb DDR3 ram dual channel

300W 80 PLUS bronze PSU by delta electronics. model: DPS-300AB-39C

I'm asking if you think i'll be fine so long as i dont overclock or is it just not worth it at all and i'll just end up frying my PSU or worse.

It's minimum of 300 watts just by itself

I would just buy a good 500 watt psu. But maybe I'm wrong ?

It probably will, but it's rather close.

Just the CPU, RAM and GPU will consume about 260 at full load, but there's the mobo, drives, and peripherals too. I wouldn't bank on 300 being enough.

The idea is to keep a PSU for a long time, so instead of making in incremental upgrade to a bit more than 300 - i'd get 450-500W and not worry. PSUs can work for years and years plus the GPUs use less and less watts.

Don't bother getting a new PSU, 300 watts is enough to run it. (around 150 watts for the CPU and GPU, so more than enough space)

Just....no. Calculators are VERY inaccurate.

A 1050Ti uses 75W or less under load. It has to source all of its power from the PCIe slot. No CPU uses 200W bar the ridiculous FX 9590. Most PCs these days don't even use 300W under load. RAM is negligible.

A 1050 Ti would work fine with your PSU. It's a Delta unit too so don't worry yourself over the quality of it.

Well s'cuze me for overcompensating ^^

I use a 1000 watter' just because I got a deal on it. Pretty darn proud of it ^^ Sort of like owning a sports car and only using it to get to the shop or whatever.

You know, your sounding a tad bit belligerent. Yeah that's right, I know big words and I'm not afraid to use them (Now that sounds taunting actually.{Words online sound differently so think it out so you won't insult people.}).

The reference card is rated for 75W. NVIDIA recommends a 300W power supply as a whole. According to Tom's Hardware, the 1050 Ti Gaming X model pulls 74.8W from the wall while playing Metro Last Light.

Nvidia/AMD/et all overestimate wattage to account for any hardware configuration and low quality PSUs. But it's a 300w minimum recommendation for the whole system, but a 650+1050Ti will never draw more than like 150w.

I'm one to talk with a 750W PSU :P. TBH I was a ignorant fool back then.

Yeah, I think it can do it.  You're probably going to be close to the limit under worst case scenario loads.

If you value less noise, it's better to not have the PSU be running max load.  Less % of total capacity = runs cooler = less fan noise from PSU.

Worst case scenario loads will be like 170w, which is well under the PSUs 12v rating of 22A.
