So a friend of mine bought a Titan XP THREE WEEKS BEFORE THE 1080TI ANNOUNCEMENT. He now feels like shit and wants his 600$ back, but Amazon won't give him a refund and no one wants the card. Is there anything he can do or is he fucked?

He might be able to sell it for $1000 or so still, maybe even more and profit on buying a new 1080Ti.

He spend 1300 on the card and wants a refund.

Lesson learned: don't buy Titans. They're a massive ripoff if all you're doing is gaming, and NVIDIA has consistently been following them up with an X80 Ti for hundreds of dollars less.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Maybe but why would anyone want a Titan XP?

As mentioned, there are people out there who want a Titan for "Bragging rights"

Doesn't Amazon offer unconditional refunds before 30 days? How did he approach them?

Yeah but he bought it over a month ago.

I read three weeks in OP.

Looking quickly it seems they offer a 20% restocking fee for other items, in original condition. Not sure whether it applies here.

Apparently Titan cards actually maintain their resale value way better than the Ti variants do because of the branding.  Some idiot will be willing to pay top dollar for it even if it's outdated.

For example, a Titan X Maxwell still goes for $740 USD despite the 1070 being the same card and being $400.  (Or the 980Ti which resells for around $250-300 USD)

There is nothing wrong with the Titan card... but if you have the money and is willing to buy one you should buy it right on release since you get to use it for those 10months or so before the --80ti release what better justify the pricing.
