danielhowk

I heard the new generation will be gtx 2080 instead of 1180?

does anyone know the Estimated date of release for gtx 2080,

currenyl im using 980ti and 1080 is still better and faster. im wondering if i should get 1080ti or wait for gtx 2080, most likely 2080 will be faster than gtx 1080ti?

Estimated date should be anywhere between now and next year. Good enough estimate?

But r7 then r9 and i thought it would be r11 but we get rx where x is 10 latin numeral.

You have to have graduated at the top of your class in the US Navy Seals to know how to do that.

It's like you think we all have a crystal ball. Everyone is just as clueless as you OP.

R7 and R9 cards were the same generation, that's why I think AMD fails fucking miserably at product nomenclature.

I thought it was just a troll post, considering the others that were posted at the same time.

You'd surprised at how many people cannot think logically. It's as if they do not think before they ask these questions.

The numbers are arbitrary.  They skipped the 8xx series on desktop for example.  And if you look at CPU's they absolutely LOVE being inconsistent there.  i.e i7 2600K, i7 3770K i7 4770K i7 5775C i7 6700K i7 7700K

4K // R5 3600 // RTX2080Ti

If we see the old patterns we will see the next generation of nvidia gpu in may- June 2018, as it seems like we are in a 2 year cycle ( that imo is way better than the 1 year cycle of the processor)

There is no problem at all in honest questions, not every one has a quick thinking to see "the logic", any ways regardless when it is coming if you have a 980ti you've a powerful enough GPU to skip pascal, and yes looking back the GTX 2070 is likely to be on pair with the GTX 1080ti give or take therefore both GTX 2080 and Titan XV are expected to be stronger cards, the 2080 will cost somewhat the same the 1080ti is costing right now, in my opinion very worth waiting for given the 980ti is still one of the highest end cards on the market.

1080ti should only be considered for two different types of scenarios.

1. You have more than enough disposable income to get it, and will not worry about 1180/2080 (whatever its decided to be called by nVIDIA) even if it is announced two months from now and drops six months from now.

2. You already have 1080 but your favourite game (whatever it is) requires more power for that 35% higher fps to reach whatever level of game performance you desire, and you absolutely want it right now.

I also have 980ti, 2 in SLi actually. I preordered 2 ASUS Strix 1080ti since I belong in #1 category, and slightly on #2 as well (I want 165+ fps at max graphics settings, doubt I'll get it even with 2x1080ti).

Anyway, thats my take on anything thats highest level in any generations of GPU on sale.

Well, I strongly believe it will be "1180", all the marketing for the 1080ti seemed like foreshadowing to me, "11gb vram, 11gbps"  ( and 1180 sounds better than 2080 imho ), anyways, your 980ti is still a capable card. The 11/2080 should be faster than the 1080ti, thats how it always been, for example; 780ti vs 980, 980ti vs 1080. If rumors are true and Volta uses a new type of cores instead of cuda, the 11/2080 should be quite a leap.

Just wait, probably 2Q 2018/ 4Q 2017

I hope so too. Dont quite remember which developer said ( so dont take my word for it, since it cant back it ) that they were able to test Volta, it was quite insane and that it used a new type of core, however the Volta Tegra SoC, I think its called Xavier, uses cuda cores :(

My two cents.

I'm running a 1440p ultra-wide display and driving it with a 980 Ti.

As much as I would like the new shiny thing, there's not enough of a value proposition in anything in the 10 Series (even the 1080Ti) that could justify the cost of upgrading now.

So I'll wait and see what the next generation has to offer.

Right now, there's nothing I'm playing that needs more GPU power than I already have.
