i3 7100 or i5 7500

i am planning to build my first PC either this spring or over the summer, i don't want to spend a whole pile money, probably  around 1200 Cnd max, i'm just wonder what cpu would be best for me. i plan on doing some gaming, and school work.

The i3 is pretty bad value especially when the pentium g4560 performs very similar and costs less. I recommend waiting a bit and seeing how ryzen 5 will perform. It's going to release in the coming weeks and should perform pretty similar to the i5 while being overclockable.

It is either g4560 or i5 7500 for cheaper locked CPU build, i3 is pointless right now and if you want high end the unlocked i5's pointless.

I agree with @david cassar on this one, just wait for ryzen 5 and then see.

Ryzen 5/3 might cause a intel price drop and or plain better cpu's.

Also why compare a i5 with a i3? They aren't really comparable since one costs a 100 more than the other.

You would think Ubisoft would support the Bulldozer based architectures more given their digging themed names like bulldozer, Piledriver, Steamroller and Excavator.

I don't know what pricing is like right now but the i5 6500 used to be cheaper and still better than the i5 7400
