AMD FX 9590 @5.1GHz runing not hot?

The FX 9590 is ruining at 5,1 GHz (not stable higher) at 1,62V with max temp of 78 Celsius useing a Noctua NH-D14.

Why is it so low? Is Noctua just that good?

Update:

board is wonky as can be, and what people are saying i am asuming that the readings are wrong and/or it is thermal "throteling". going back to "safe" 4,8 GHz at 1,56V

thanks for the info

Are you doing anything with your computer?

If you are not doing much the CPU isn't being pushed as hard, so it doesn't get as hot.

Once you start running a game or other CPU intensive program, the CPU will throttle down it speed as the temperatures rise.

They are supposed to shut down at 75c so rip, that is way too hot. I suspect it's not 78c or using 1.62v or it would be thermal throttling like crazy unless you have turned everything off in the bios and you are killing your cpu pretty quick.

FX9590 has lower temperature ceiling compared to Intel CPUs so yes, it is running hot as hell.

Or you know, AMD temp monitoring is awful and it could be running cooler :P

1,62V? that doesn't sound very safe? have you run a stress test like aida64?

See what I said below.

1.62V for FX CPUs is normal.

can confirm, FX line runs at crazy fucking high voltage. I managed to undervolt my CPU and still get a decent overclock.

this is SERIUSLY hot for FX , Tjmax is 72 , recommended max is 62 (for daily)

also 1.62v .... the max it allows you normally is 1.55

I ran my 6100 at 1.4625 and was like "this is a lot"

That's the auto voltage given by a crap board.  the absolute max vid is 1.55v so it's definitely not recommended to run it at that voltage never mind higher :/

From what I've been reading elsewhere, 1.6V is apparently alright when cooled properly.

What have you been reading :P you can run 2v on Ln2 with no issues, but he's running an air cooler. 1.6v 24/7 is insane even if the cpu was under a massive water loop at 40c max.

I have. That is what i got under aoda64. But based on what people are saying and the board is as wonky as can be. The readings are wrong somehow.

If that's the socket temp, you are 6C above the stated limit. If that's the package temp, you are 10-12C above safe temps.

Still, at 1.64v I would be more worried about VRM temps.

it's because the TJmax of that CPU is 62c...it's running VERY VERY hot right now man.

Also, 1.5v is the max recommened voltage...just saying.

you're torturing that poor little chip right now.

That doesn't change the max safe voltages lol, 1.55v is AMD's absolute max recommendation, 1.5v or lower for aircooling or AIO. Also AMD has the FX series overvolted out of the box just like the RX 470/480, the FX cpus operate at pre-defined voltages (to ensure stability for all chips.) and they have a strict maximum tdp (once it hits its rated tdp it will throttle to idle speed (1.4ghz)), this is enforced by APM. Max temperature goes by TDP, 70.5c for 95w parts, 61c for 125w, and 57c for 220w.

Hmmm... I must be mixing up with LN2 chips I've seen (that were pathetic at overclocking) them... Lower max temps at higher TDPs? Well done AMD.
