I rarely am the first to adopt tech, I'd rather use other consumers as guinea pigs and at least get some reviews on something before I buy. However, today I broke the consecutive cycle of about 4 years since I did something similar. I bought this:

8979_big.jpg

I am building an HTPC for my parents and my sister, and for the Athlon II X4 740 I decided it would be a good idea to get the only FM2+ mobo I could find, instead of going with what is going to become an evolutionary dead-end (FM2)

Granted, I probably wouldn't have done this if the only two FM2 mini-ITX options (MSi and AsRock) didn't already have very mixed feedback and lots of RMA complaints. But I am still fearing an RMA process, especially since this is for a christmas present...

So my question is: what was the last "fresh" tech item you bought almost blind? Before this, it was my Nvidia GTX 470. (Which I do not regret)

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

Bought Z87 Pro within days of it releasing, if not the same day it came out. I think Asus were the only ones with Z87 boards at the time.

Per core was down the shits, and for whatever reason it wouldn't even stay at full speed under full load, even though thermals were in check. The fact that my 540 did better than it doesn't help.

I haven't seen anything like that on my cousins system. but that sounds pretty bad

Let's just say it wouldn't even stay at the rated 3.6. It dropped itself down into the 2.4 range, and I had the thing manually OC'd to 4.2. And even clock loving FSX did worse with a 4.2GHz 4100 than a stock clocked 540. Overclock the 540 and it completely demolished the 4100 everywhere, no exception.

It's great for what it is, they do market zero latency, and let me tell you, it's freakin zero latency.  They did not lie there, I was so impressed with it I let the other problems go.

I bought a MSI z77a-gd65 instead of an Asrock z77 extreme3 because I got more money than I was expecting from my birthday. I knew it was a better board but I hadn't read into it at all compared to the Asrock

I bought a Trenscend PATA SSD back in 2006. Worst pice of tech I've ever bought. It wasn't very fast and it would freeze up randomly

Since then I have always let a technology mature before I buy it.

Nothing. Ive always bought things that are proven.

Same here. When I want to buy something, I usually hunt down the internet and devour reviews of that specific product. Take my rig as an example: 2 years ago, in November I wanted to build my own pc. I compared every single part with alternatives and changed a lot.

In the end, I ended buying the whole bunch in March that next year.

Right now, I am in the market for a graphics card upgrade, but I am waiting for 290 aftermarket performance :P

New to Star Citizen? Look no further!
