An IPS monitor can also be LED, so it's hard to say.

Which two monitors are you comparing?

IPS is an LCD panel type. LED is a backlighting type.

If you were wondering about panel types, IPS is considered the best as far as image quality goes.

Just now, harrybamber8 said:

well IPS is the screen technology for LCD, so it would be more like LCD vs LED

Well, LEDs would win, because it's the actual lighting element.

But then you would need a huge monitor for 1080p content. :P

IPS is just the panel. LCD vs LED would be the correct comparison and PLS vs TN vs IPS would be the panel comparisons

"LED" monitors use LCDs. LED is the back lighting element. The older back lighting element was CCFL.

All modern monitors are LED.

CCFL is no longer used.

The panel technology is then IPS or TN or VA or PLS, which you need to choose.
