Calling A Alliance Of Coders!

Snapy1

As most of you know that Google+ kinda made everyone cry over how they ruined YouTube. I got a plan, what if we created a new website to share & watch videos. A lot of people say that would take a lot of money, but not really. Just look at YouTube it started just by two friends coding it in their garage. I cannot do this myself though. That is why I am calling all html, php, javascript, css coders to help not just me but the whole YouTube community. I know very little html, javascript, and css. So thats why we need a alliance. If you want to make a change join the Raidcall group called:

PS :: We could also code it with Python.

Heres the recipe.

Well it was stared by two people then down the line Google bought it out and since that day it had a massive team looking after it..... but not a bad way to make lots of money if Google see you as a threat they will buy you out.

I wouldn't let myself get bought out if I was a threat

Also I wouldn't mind helping I know some html and css and could make logos and such but I don't know any javascript at all, interested though :)

The problem here is that there are already alternatives to Youtube. What can you do that would make your site more successful than them?

Good luck to you though.

While it's always fun to build small projects like this, you really need to think twice before going too far. Nowadays people want fast and reliable 1080p streaming (at the very least). Downloading, encoding and then serving the videos will be extremely expensive. And then add storing of data to that... You'll need massive investors pretty soon.

Cheers,

Linus

Not sure if this is possible but what about developing an extension?

I think this would be the only real option. Something like Youtube Center but for the comment section. Basically just remove all the default comment code from the page, connect to your server and download your comment data to throw on the page.

Of course like any addon, not all people will have it so there will be a huge divide in the users usually leading to bad experiences.

Its not a project I'd logically take on..... but anyway

I don't see how google can legally shutdown a video start up or why they'd need to. So long as they didn't use the trademarked stuff like the terms specific to the site or the colour scheme or use the youtube player, I think you'd be fine.. Legally.

I also don't see room for a video start-up unless its literally impeccable. Absolutely secure, great user management, 100% optimized video player and room/capital for massive server capacity
(given that if all of the pre-requisites are met it could take off, and if there was even a day of down time it could mean bad news).

Specifically client side, it would have to be HTML5 video and those systems aren't perfect yet so Ill say its most definitely possible to take youtube's space though that space is quickly being closed down on.

I'd say there's actually more space for someone to make an HTML5 video service/plugin, as apposed to a central site, which can easily replace flash players and then sell that to all the misc. video sites with a license to make the odd modification to it.

Well... That sounds just like http://www.jwplayer.com/, which has been around for years, and their service is used by just about every site on the web that doesn't use YouTube.  ;)

I don't think they would even care, unless this turns out to be something that could really be a threat to their business, in which case they would buy it or something

I know many sites who still use flash player, so jw may be a great player but it might not be so easy to switch out from a flash player or more so, the lisencing cost isn't well... viable for those sites. I'm just saying its worth invesitgation

With all due respect, that is a terrible idea. Using mostly college/high school programmers (I know some are more experienced but they are mostly younger guys like myself) you want to take down and replace THE biggest video hosting site in the world? To do that we would need a lot of money, programmers are not going to develop a project this big for free. Even if a site can be made that is somewhat respectable - who's going to upload videos there? The majority of YouTubers you watch are being paid by Google to upload videos. Do you think Linus is just going to leave a paid job to upload to our new site without an audience?

Better yet start HTML5.com and only have html5 video's, jump to the future with no Flash BS.
