Lenovo’s smartphone plan: Do what Apple failed to do with iPhone 5c

Youbetternot

Lenovo is plain awesome, from tablets with high resolution to awesome laptops. Lenovo plans to please the customers by listening to what they want from the iphone 5c and make it in their smartphone. If this really happens and the phone is not too expensive (I think it won't because it's following the iphone 5c "the apple cheap phone")  then I would buy one. The predicted phone looks pretty cool, but the screen could be bigger then again it's trying to copy apple with some changes.

One of the biggest surprises in the tech world this year came when Apple decided that it wouldn’t try to attract consumers in emerging markets by releasing a truly low-cost iPhone. Instead, the iPhone 5c that the company launched in September is mostly another high-end smartphone that’s slightly less expensive than the iPhone 5s off-contract because of its older hardware and cheaper plastic casing. Chinese manufacturer Lenovo, which has been the one company to actually thrive during the great PC sales collapse of 2013, now sees an opportunity to deliver to consumers in emerging markets and is planning to target consumers whom Apple has failed to reach with the iPhone 5c.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing said that the company’s goal is to serve markets where “the iPhone is probably not the best-selling product” because it’s seen as too expensive. This means that Lenovo will start expanding its reach beyond the Chinese market and into territories where the competition isn’t as fierce, such as Latin America, Africa and the Middle East.

Of course many smartphone vendors, including Huawei, BlackBerry and Samsung, have been trying to make waves in these emerging markets over the past few years. But Lenovo’s brand recognition and big marketing budget give it an edge to push its way into markets where it doesn’t have a big presence selling smartphones.

Looks like the Android button layout. Also, if that's a "low price" phone it looks DEAD SEXY for that category. It's possible they're using that plastic that only LOOKS like Aluminum, but even then they definitely have a chance to get the people who want an affordable phone with a nice design. I hope Linus (or at least someone I follow) gets a review sample.

Lenovo making phone? yay!, They are not gonna be launched on the US until they feel more confident.

I hope this means people on Latin America, aren't gonna get recked with ridiculous pricing all the Smartphones manufactures make them pay.

ew, those screws are hugh

I personally like the screws, but it's all a matter of aesthetics. Arguably, if the screws are functional then it's probably easier to get inside this phone than a lot of others, but also implies that the back isn't easily removable to access the battery.

iPhone 5C isn't suppose to be the entry phone. That's what the 4S is for. 5C is the midrange. 5S is the high end.

But Android on Intel SoC? That'll be interesting.

the 5C was never meant to be cheap, it's an iPhone 5 with cheaper parts for the sake of higher profit margins
