ValvE will kill STEAM GreenLight this spring, to be replaced with new program

i'd be interested in the idea of a fee depending on the potential cost and/or rvenue stream of the project.

for example: "polandball can into space", a small, cheap game, gets a cheap "greenlight fee"

whereas "ark: survival evolved", a rather pricy game with a big scope, gets a more expensive fee as a sanity check to see if the company *really* has the cahones to push on with it.

although, i defenately see the challenges with implementing such a system.

Noooo, I have a feeling that would mean something like "Stare at Paint Dry" would get a fee of 1 dollar.

well, there's still the possibility of having a minimum ;) (which i'd imagine would be at the 100 buckaroo it is now)

Problem is someone did upload "Watch Paint Dry" when the fee was 100 USD, make 200.

The person who uploaded it did it just to show that you can get anything on Green Light. Don't think he expected anyone to buy it.

the thing is, greenlight is kind of a "sanity check" if people will buy it, even if 1% of greenlight voters ends up pressing buy, chances are it's been worth the effort

EDIT: how about having a vote on greenlight cost 1 cent? is that just insanity or actually viable? :D

Wait, does that mean we won't get more shitty, broken survival games? Oh noes!

That system is so broken and spammy. Then again, steam as a whole is super spammy with shit games. Any change is welcome.

i fear for as long as they're all shitty and broken new ones will make it trough a greenlight replacement anyways, because people sorely want one that's not broken :D

While they are at it can they kill Early Access too?

At the very least have someone vetting all the submissions and require the game to be at a reasonable stage of development and quality.

i'd rather have them enforce a means of "proving progress" to allow games to stay in early access, and if they cant prove they're still doing appropriate work, they get a fitting penalty for sorts (eg if they dont do large updates anymore, they get pulled off early access into a "forced release", a ban on DLC in early access, etc.)

Should have call it Steam Sousvide

Lord Gaben knows bandwidth cost is too damn high, and has decided to send games out on disc. The game disc must be tightly sealed and slowly cooked in a Lord Gaben certified Sousvide, for 15 hours before the game can be installed into your computer.

Thank God. All those poorly programmed and poorly executed horror games can hopefully stop popping up all over.

There were too many terrible titles and even straight comedian titles like "Theres poop in my soup" available.... funny game tough, xD. Theres no control, just user stupidity on Greenlight -.-

You only use the stylized trademark for copy-write. On legal documents and the Legal Info page of Steam, it is Valve Corporation.

Good to see progress at last. I thought we were all doomed when Sony joined the party.
