Check out the Long Dark. It has very intresting graphics too it. Its a Open World survival game, in early access and there working on the Story Mode for it. Right now you can choose between sandbox or challeneges. Just note that it can be very brutal at times and the game saves only when you go to sleep, and death means a restart unless you take your save file and copy it to a diffrent location then put it back when you die. Beyond that death is permeant and you'll have to start a new character.

There is The Walking Dead Season 1, 2 and 3 and I know they are not open world games but I can guarantee you are going to love it (If you are going to play them, play them accordingly as you might get messed up in the story). I cried at the end of Season 1. And about the open world games, check out this video, there are some interesting games here.

Omg there are so many. I would recommend Mad Max to the top of the list - playing it now after picking it up on sale in Steam and its got an amazing story + levelling system. Its different from far cry in that its third person, but the experience is very similar.

I also found this list that has some good games:

Have you tried Prey?  It's pretty decent and the campaign is pretty open-ended
