Files on USB drive disappear after you put them on

crazysteve240
Go to solution Solved by waterjug,

you just got scammed. 2TB flash drives don't exist.

I bought a 2TB USB drive on eBay so I could store some movies and family photos on it. When I put some movies on they would just disappear the next time I plugged in the USB drive. The folder that I put them in was still there, the space allocated by the movies was still there, but the movies weren't. Any suggestions?

Might I ask how much you paid?  I very much suspect everyone here is correct, and if you paid less than about $500 it would verify this 100%

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Software tricks exist to make the OS think the USB drive is larger than it really is. That drive is probably some old, modified 1-4GB stick that you overpaid for. As soon as you try to write more data to the drive than it has space for, it will overwrite/corrupt/delete/whatever existing files and generally mess things up in there.

As others have said, you got scammed.

You got scammed. Aside from the fact that 2TB flash drives don't even exist, if they did they would cost a lot more than $15.
