  1. 1. How to pronounce Risen?

    • Ry-sen
      12
    • Re-sen
      4

Is it Ry-sen or Re-sen? I've always been using Re-zen but I've also heard Ry-zen from time to time. Especially weird since AMD Ryzen has been debated too. What do you guys think? I am aware that different places have difference pronunciation of words. I am looking for the original one, not the American one.

'Rise'

'N'

is the correct way to pronouce "RISEN"

The ones you labelled are incorrect.

Now I get the feeling you want Ryzen if that be the case, its non normal and is slang. So however AMD wants you to say it.

I would go

'Rye'

'Zen'

Ry-sen = no!

Re-sen = definatley no

Re-zen = no

Ry-zen = so you just put a dash between the two fractions

Doesn't really help at all. You broke it down into smaller syllables but those individually can be pronounced in many different ways.

For example, all of the following could be pronounced the same way:

Ry-sen

Ry-zen

Rye-zun

Rai-zen

You could maybe look into comparing to existing words, or even something like the IPA.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Phonetic_Alphabet

Individual characters for individual sounds - if you read it right you can't mispronounce anything :)

@jasonwj322a As is usual with these sorts of things, there probably isn't an official pronunciation (In the case of Ryzen). Even companies like Asus have pronounced their name in different ways, even from official sources.

If you're questioning Risen (the past tense of rise), then it's pretty much the same in american and british english.

Browsing online dictionaries is a good idea if you're not sure on pronunciation, since they have the IPA (as above) as well as phonetic spelling and also sound clips http://www.dictionary.com/browse/risen

Ry-zen

Rye-zun

Rai-zen

they could all be pronounced the same way, only improperly.

Ry-sen has a "SSS" sound rather than a "ZZZ" sound

Ry-zen would be correct

Rye-zun - Rye is pronounced the same as ry, but zun sounds different than zen

Rai-zen would sound like "Ray-zen".

But OP is talking about the past tense of "Rise"... I think. which is Ri-zen(small i sound.) Ry-zen is incorrect.

If you are talking about the past tense word "Risen", as in, "Risen: we rose off the ground earlier today",

It's pronounced "Rih-sen", with the "sen" almost having a 'zed' sound to it, but not quite.

Granted, there will be small regional variations. "Rye-zen" is how the new AMD processor architecture is called, and bears no resemblance to the English word "risen".

The OP isn't talking about AMD's RyZen CPU lineup. He's talking about the English word "risen"...

Well, it's still Rai-sen

Wait I've also heard Ri-sen

Actually Ri-sen may be more correct.

Again, back to my original post. There's no point trying to spell out words in this way, either use a phonetic alphabet, compare to other words, or listen to a sound clip in a dictionary entry.

As a non-native, I don't always have the same 'senses' to hear if something sounds odd or not. The way I pronounce it, is 'ryzen' unless I think about it for a second and think to myself "huh.. It rizen"
