Xeon E3-1230v5 vs i7 6700 - Which one?

I'm in a debate of what CPU to get, it's either the Intel Xeon E3-1230v5 or the i7 6700 ( Not K edition ). I mainly do gaming, but I do record and edit videos which apparently the Xeon is better for. Also the Xeon processor is $100 cheaper then the i7 6700 and it also has hyperthreading similar to the i7, only downside is the slightly lower clock speed. It the FPS difference that much to justify an extra $100? Also motherboard is not an issue, already found a gaming one for the Xeon, the E3 KRAIT GAMING V5.

Thank you!

I don't have the budget to afford a i7 6700K sadly, it's an extra $50 then the i7 6700 + the cost of the cooler, which will be $50 at least.

Save up for a bit longer then.

Get the xeon if you are ok with having that motherboard

Yea, I'm happy with the motherboard, I prefer it over the i7 board actually.

I don't have that option, it's either now or never. ( Don't want to explain the whole situation )

Thank you!

The Xeon won't be better at video editing compare to equivalent i7 especially when the i7 is 200mhz faster. You forgot that the Xeon doesn't have an integrated Intel HD 530 compare to i7-6700 so if you need QuickSync acceleration, 6700 is the "only" choice.

6700 because it can actually work on regular Z170 motherboards.

Best look at overall system cost. That mobo doesn't seem particularly cheap, and if you went 6700 non-k you can get lower cost mobos. About the only good reason to go Xeon is if you need ECC ram, which doesn't sound like the case here.

I wouldn't worry about the slight difference in boost speeds between them though.

If I go to lowest cost ATX motherboard that the store i'm looking at stocks, I'll only save $40 from the current board. $40 cheaper board is the Asus H170-Pro. It'll still cost $60 more then the Xeon system for the i7 6700 and the Asus board. It's a really hard choice lol, are there any benefits for Xeon chips as in rendering, computing or gaming? ( < Certainty not gaming! xD ). Someone said that the rendering for videos would be the same on the i7, if that's true there's no real point of the Xeon.....

You have to consider which Xeon is compared against which i7. A major differentiator is that Xeons support ECC to help better reliability, but there are faster/slower ones with different numbers of cores and different price points...

Here we're comparing two processors of the same generation, with the same cores/cache and almost the same speed, so the raw performance difference between them isn't going to be significant.

The Xeon E3 1230v5 seems to differ from the 6700 most significantly in that it has a 200 MHz lower boost clock. As long as you're comfortable with that and happy with the C232 motherboard's features, I don't see any reason you should have to pay more for the 6700.
