AMD FX-6300 on ASUS M5A78L-M with EVGA GTX 1060 6 GB Shutting Down When Gaming

ccs46

Hello. So the computer works but as soon as I play a game and it works for a few minutes but when go Into the settings it reboots and goes to the post screen.

My specs are as follows:

Motherboard: ASUS M5A78L-M Motherboard with AM3+ socket.

CPU: AMD FX-6300 at 3.5 Ghz

GPU: EVGA GTX 1060 6 GB

OS: Windows 7 64-Bit

All drivers have been installed properly. ASUS anti-surge was activating but I disabled it.

Is there a board that will work? I heard something about this board not being able to supply enough power for the power hungry 6300. So can someone point me to a motherboard that will work with my setup so it doesn't shut down?

It goes straight to a black screen and then the POST screen comes up.

hardware wise it could be mobo or PSU. The Mobo can shut off if the PSU puts out the incorrect voltage but I've had both that and some random crap with my board cause the same issue you're having

Having used the M5A78L-M/USB3 until I managed to damage the socket (and my fx-6100 with the socket), I don't think the board particularly failed me apart from when I killed the PCIE slot with ESD...

The problem's probably the PSU as other posters have mentioned, or perhaps your CPU overheating. Hopefully you're not using the stock cooler unless it's the Wraith cooler...

Sig under construction.

What psu?

Does it do this i a different OS?

Its a Thermal Take 600 Watt. And I don't have any other OS installed. It works fine til I try and play games on it.

How long does it game? Is it getting hot or just instantly powering down as soon as you launch a game?

It will play for about 5 minutes. Whats weird is before when I had anti surge on it would trigger when I played the game for more than 5 minutes. When I turned that off it would just play for 5 minutes, black screen and then reboot.

Could you elaborate? If it's anti surge on the motherboard, then you can be almost sure it's the PSU...

Well I walk around in the game for a bit and when I goto click on a menu item it black screens than reboots and would come up with a screen that said a surge was detected ASUS anti-surge shut down your computer to prevent damage.

Did you calculate the power draw of your rig when buying your PSU? My new build that I have on my profile needs around 800 Watts. Maybe the 600 is too underpowered for your rig.

Yup! Either your PSU is at fault, or your room's circuitry is terrible...

I didn't buy it from new egg though. I got it from best buy. I do not have another GPU to test it with. And yeah it runs fine when not under-load. Simple web-browsing works fine on it.

Probably exactly what you're experiencing right now is whats wrong with it.

The recommended tier for a power supply is tier 3, with tier 4 being absolute minimum for gaming. That power supply is a tier 7.

Did you read any reviews before you bought the power supply? some people say it dies (quite spectacularly sometimes) within a few months of light use.
