Nintendo plans to release up to 3 mobile games a year

Guest

Super Mario Run has become one of the most downloaded mobile games on iOS with more downloads expected when it's released on Android. Well, Nintendo plans to release more games on the mobile platform with up to three games a year which will include different franchises such as Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem

Quote

Nintendo might expand its mobile game universe well beyond Super Mario Run, according to an interview between the company’s president Tatsumi Kimishima and Japan-based media outlet Kyoto NP. Kimishima says the company is considering releasing two to three games every year, starting in 2017.

I personally want to see Nintendo to release more games though this comes with some concerns such as the quality of the work and the price. The former can be addressed by Nintendo making ports for their older titles, but if that's the only thing they do then it would basically mean there would be no reason for owners of their other platforms to buy the games especially if there is very little difference. The latter is a little harder to address given that the game is coming from a company that is used to selling their games on platforms that they themselves own which means pricing is often not as big as a problem as it is on the mobile market.

An example would be Super Mario Run which is quite a pricey game which offers much of what other infinite runners already offer which leads many to see it as a buy for nostalgia sake instead of a new adventure to partake in. In fact according to Kishima, Nintendo's president,  only 4% of users are using the paid version which is honestly expected given the current price tag.

The game that made people exercise? That was pretty unhealthy, now that you mention it.

I'm totally up for Fire Emblem ports for iOS and Android. Animal Crossing would be a great game to put on mobile if the main game is on the Switch and your phone can allow you to travel and receive "gifts" when doing so.

Don't talk shit about Pokemon Go. My dad's level 34 legitimately. It got him outside considering he has a load of time on his hands since his redundancy and he's lost 10 kilos doing it. He walks aimlessly around the shopping center catching the spawns and looking around shops. His poor Moto G 1st Gen warms up so much he tapes an ice pack to the device to cool it down and keeps 2 backups in the fridge. I played it in the first place when it came out, installed it on his phone and got him addicted. There's a small but dedicated playerbase on the game working to hit level 40.

idk

Pokemon Go wasn't made by Nintendo. Developed by Niantic and published by the Pokemon Company.

If they could make an online version of the traditional Pokemon, maybe with the roaming features of Pokemon Go and pvp interaction, it would be a supermassive hit.

But of course it makes too much sense so they won't do it.

It'll just take them 8 years until they do.

Wouldn't count on 8 years even. Them old Japanese men at the top are too out of touch with modern demand to give it the green light.

Things have been moving much faster since Satoru Iwata came and Kimishima should hopefully have a good grasp from his time at the Pokemon Company.

Its been covered many times by many people. The underpowered machine with a gimmick as a USP doesn't work, that was proven by both the GameCube and the Wii U (they got lucky with Wii, it was a fluke).

Developers will run for the hills when they see how Switch performs compared to other current gen consoles (remember the thing apparently has less power than XB1 while its competing with PS Pro & Scorpio) and it will end up the usual slew of cut down AAA titles and first party titles.

Switch will end in the exact same way as Wii U did, loved by Nintendo fans while everybody else remains indifferent and as proven by Wii U, Nintendo fans are not enough to keep the console alive.

I hope I'm wrong as I'm a Nintendo fanboy, I've owned everything they ever released (never owned a virtual boy actually) at some point in my life but I just don't see how Switch is going to change anything over Wii U.

to me personally it literally sounds like they've taken the wiiu gamepad, shoved the wiiu internals into it, made the sides detachable and given it a fancy dock and connector. not a bad idea but when we got bf1 running at 720p60 on the XB1 it's not gonna be easy for the switch to pull this off

idk

Now if they could release those games on the Windows Store, that'd be great... I mean, I get it, Windows Phones don't have a huge market share compared to Android or iOS, but come on! It would also work on Windows PCs, surely that has a huge market share, right!?!

3 mobile games a year? That's like just as much as the Wii U has been getting, actually more. Guess Nintendo realized their consoles are irrelevant. I hope the Switch/NX changes that, but as of now, that's just the sad truth.

I think Nintendo turning into Sega within 5 to 8 years is a good thing for them: Yes I'm calling it now the switch will have a lukewarm reception with only the hardcore Nintendo fans adopting and they'll eventually give up hardware and just focus on printing mobile money.

And no this isn't exclusive to Nintendo: it will take longer but both console players will eventually abandon hardware and either rely on PCs and third party appliances, cloud services or a combo of both.

Why are they bragging? It's the only 3 games they make. Rest is just rebranded mix of the 3 games they have!

Those three games still make them as much money as CoD and Battlefield. And look nicer in most cases.
