Adobe stopped the development of Flash for mobile in November 2011. Even when Android phones and tablets (3.0 Honeycomb) supported it, it didn't popularized Flash on mobile nor it became a big issue to consumers so it slowly went away in favor of HTML5 video (proprietary H.264 and open WebM). Even Netflix no longer uses Microsoft Silverlight. The problem of course is that there are still a ton of websites who use Flash like my employer's company site. The good thing about HTML5 is that when you code once, it will work across different browsers as long as they support the W3C standards. I don't know if it's difficult to migrate Flash content into something like CSS3. 

 

It's just sad that Apple seem to forgot that they need to support HTML5 standards. While Edge is not the most "HTML5 compliant" browser, it's significantly better than Safari.

Kill it already. HTML 5 is so much better.

I've kept flash disabled in my browser since last year cos Edge has let me disable flash.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

My opinion they should have done this a long time ago, my parents' aging iMac from early 2008 running some number of OSX can't run youtube videos or update the OS anymore. Chrome can't update, not sure about firefox but it has to update flash player frequently. I want them to have a new computer but cash is tight.

I'm just sick of flash player, having to ask permission if I want to make my netacad tests become usable on firefox.

I actually forgot Flash was a thing... I just had to check if Flash was even on my PC. (Its not).
 

I still remember IOS dropping Flash and how Android having Flash was a big deal, just because as much as we all hated Flash, HTML5 was not ready.
Glad those day are far behind us.

Your PC still has Adobe Flash. You can't find it in the Control Panel's Program List but it's built in to Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. To reduce chances of exploits, they've sandboxed Flash and it will update automatically via Chrome itself and through Windows Updates.

I am honestly surprised flash has survived for so long. Microsoft and Google should have banded with Apple to ban it back in 2010.

The problem of course is that there are still a ton of websites who use Flash like my employer's company site. The good thing about HTML5 is that when you code once, it will work across different browsers as long as they support the W3C standards. It's just sad that Apple seem to forgot that they need to support HTML5 standards. While Edge is not the most "HTML5 compliant" browser, it's significantly better than Safari.

Unfortunately you are wrong, if you want to watch 1080p on netflix using win7 you have to install it and use IE(yep tried to disable it in IE  but then Netflix wont play anything just display a massage to install it). All other browser is artificially limited to 720p...

Well for Edge on Windows 10 and Safari for macOS, Netflix loads videos without the use of third party plugins. That's because Microsoft stopped developing IE, they'll just send security patches but no feature upgrades. There are perks for having the latest operating system. Just saying ?

Oh the classic flawed argument that not updating = infected PC. To use a security hole you have to get something downloaded onto the target PC and make the user/program to run it. I use both adblock and noscript that solves the problem of the browser and i do not download any random stuff. If it cant get on my PC it cannot infect it. Your argument was busted so many times that  i lost count :D .

 

BTW how can you tell if that security update doesnt contain anything else, like in case of that certain IE security update which contained win10 adware?9_9

Facts based on what? You do realize that the end of life cycle for Windows 7 is January 14, 2020. So suit yourself while we will have our legit copies of W10 creators update and will get OS updates for free for the years to come.

Oh that free argument again... Its not free, you pay for it with your data(plus cash if someone payed for that junk). And what facts? Well the telemetry fiasco, then it was revealed that its still collects all data even if you disable it, it can bypass the built-in firewall, etc... Yeah, you can deny it all you want it wont change anything...
