I7 7700K uses TIM

A member from Anandtech forum, got his Core i7 7700K and ran some test. Then he delidded his cpu, cleaned off Intel's stock TIM, and applied one of his own. Temp difference between intel stock and his was 30C.

So moral of the story, if you plan to delid your CPU and use liquid metal instead of the TIM that's in there so you can overclock it to hell and back, Kaby Lake is worthwhile. Otherwise, just stick with your Skylake CPU.

 

Unless you want to spend $180 on an overclockable i3. Oh, wait, you can overclock the i3-6100 for about $90 less...

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Maybe intel has switched to the new and improved toothpaste thermal interface material which I hear is really popular these days?

OK, just to be "that" guy, but it doesn't have any indication of ambient temp during either of those tests... so could be a hoax where someone thought it'd be funny to do a test without the A/C on first, and then put the A/C on and run the test again after delidding.

If it's not a hoax then intel have severely screwed the pooch again with the TIM they used.

Am I the only one impressed with the 5.0 GHz at 1.344v both before and after delidding?
