@nicklmg after watching the video I stand corrected, but why didn't he mention cooling performance?

He talks about both noise levels and cooling at around 6:45.

Still waiting for Clevo and other rebadges to use 1440p OLED. Give em that and they're perfect.  

Also is it possible to produce a matte OLED display? Noticed this one had the annoying glossy screen. 

 

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

I have never been a huge fan of alienware in the past, but now their newer laptops are pretty good.

Why though? It mostly gonna distract while gaming if it isn't on static.

I said this in the floatplane section but how were thermals? There is a known problem with the laptops and the 3 screw heatsink design causing uneven pressure and core temps to be different by up to 12C.

It's possible, but it probably wont be in use because matte finishes tend to make the display look hazy and with the light emitters right there, there may be color bleed that's unwanted, which can also reduce contrast.

 

But I'm speculating.

I like the razer and alienware about the same aesthetically. They both have strong appeals in their own way.

@nicklmg I am glad you guys decided to take a looks at Alienware.I believe this is the first review on the brand from LTT. Do you guys have any plans for models like the 17? Also the prices are not that bad anymore, if you compare with other laptop. It is a shame that the comment section still doesn't understand change. I read comments with many upvotes like "Only Alienware can charge that much for a gaming laptop what a rip off". When really now the days of their laptops being overpriced is gone. Also it is a darn solid device, and their bigger brothers have a 99wHR battery that is legally the largest size that can still go on a airplane. While not perfect they are solid devices that get a lot of hate from misconceptions. I am actually getting one this week, and I might do a review after a while on the forum.

Most of their laptops aren't overpriced anymore, they are really competitive now.  I will be honest they sure as heck didn't use to be though, but people don't realize they aren't that bad on price anymore.

Despite how good their hardware is, why isn't Linus addressing the possibility of burn in? i cant seems to justify the price if laptop cannot last more than 2 year.

Some OLEDs take a lot longer to burn in than others. There is no way in his short review period that he would be able to find any, the same for any reviewer.

 Honestly the Alienware 13 for the last 3 years/ Models has not really been over priced compared to its competition and cheaper in a lot of cases. even the 15 hasn't been overpriced in a while haven't looked at the new 15 though.

This year alienware 13 is a little more overpriced then past due to Kinda Showing a fake low price since it comes with a 720p screen which costs a good amount to upgrade in other years you could cheaply upgrade this.

 Yep exactly last 3 years at least its been a very competitive product in price-Perf .  Though admitly not perfect devices ussualy a bit Heavier and fatter then id like i would say the 17 is just a easily movable desktop lol i had a 17inch xps that was identical to the alienware 17 at the time and the alienware 17 replaced it in dells lineup actually but was 100 bucks cheaper so i saved the money.

 

I have never owned one but was looking into getting the alienware 13 R1 a while back built a desktop instead But it was one of the cheapest computers with the specs it had With a Smaller/Lighter 13" Frame then many others and i wanted portability if i was getting a laptop and this and the razer were some of the few options and this was like 1/2 to 1/3rd the price of that lol with a tier lower GPU

I'm actually concerned about the raw thermal numbers during extended stress-test.

Many manufacturers are currently having thermal- and power delivery issues with pascal laptops like discharging while plugged in and heavy thermal  throttling after 15 minutes.

 

Could you kindly report extended stress tests in the future? preferably with and without v/g/free-sync (which can contribute quite a lot to power savings)
