What motherboard should I get for my i7 6700k?

Hey guys! I have decided to buy a 6700k and I want some advice on a good motherboard for it! I have several sticks of ddr3 ram already (but is upgrading to ddr4 worth it?) also I have a 24pin ATX PSU (evga supernova 1000p)

 

I am upgrading from an AMD fx 8350.

A ~150$ Z170 Mainboard will do the Job and you have no Choice with DDR4.

is your ram ddr3L??? that's the only ddr3 ram that works with skylake I'm pretty sure. And just get a z170 motherboard that you think has a good aesthetic and functionality for a decent price.

I never said go blindly and buy cheapest one. Buy cheapest one that doesn't fail, which is obvious. There are reviews online.

 

I don't think he's going for looks, if he skimps on DDR4 memory.

DDR4 sounds mandatory to me, ditch that DDR3

 

Since you specifically mention a 24 pin power cord on your PSU (which is kind of normal in the last decade), that sounds like you don't really have a clue whats ticking along in that box? (no offense meant at all). Maybe tell us what PSU that is (specific model  so we can have a look),

It's an evga supernova 1000p, pretty sure it's overkill for what I've got but hey it was on sale.

EVGA makes amazing PSU's. It will last. I think warranty is like 10 years.

RAM literally makes no difference. Mhz are only useful in servers. Otherwise, yet again get cheapest possible sticks. 2x8GB will do nicely. They usually have lifetime warranty anyway so you'll be fine.

- enable XMP profile in your Bios to get support for higher speeds

- pick a color that you want

- buy anything that comes with a speed between 2666 and 3200 MHz

- don't worry too much, no human being on this planet notices the difference between those ram sticks anyway :-)

Not true anymore. 6700k combined with fast  DDR4 can give you up to 10% in certain Games.
