X99 Dead? X99 VS X299 VS Z270

Hi folks,

 

What do you guys think about the new line up that Intel and AMD are cooking?

 

I feel like I made a mistake by buying my ASUS RAMPAGE V EXTREME 3 months ago along with 6800K.

 

What do you guys think?

AMD zen nothing official but I doubt they would be better than Broadwell and Haswell e from Intel. Right now only Kaby LAke 7700k is going to release but not 7800k or 7900k and the 7700k is only a small increase in performance from 6700k so get 6800k. x299 is too early

Apparently Kaby Lake chips can reach 5Ghz. Clocked at 4.0 - 4.2 Ghz with 4.5 Ghz boost. They apparently CAN reach it, but temps are bad.

 

I also heard that there will be some sort of support for X99 to support the X299 chips by having a socket overlay another socket so it fits? IDK honestly, but it's just rumors.

I was pretty sure that I would be building my PC around the release of Zen/Kaby Lake. I'm thinking I will probably be able to put everything together around late February early March. Though I'm not 100% sure.

I'd wait if I were you. I'm currently using GT 210 for HDMI (Come one 1080 TI), but at least if I were to get new Z270 chip or something, I could sell X99 with stuff and get enough money + leftovers to get Z270 with all the goodies.

nah, 7700k is not as good as 6800k

Just looking at options. It pisses me off that I always get PC equipment right before new one is released. Annoying.

Like I said, I'm likely going to be building around the release of Kaby Lake/Zen unless they're expected until June/July then I'm just going to go with Z170. I don't really want to wait that long. I've already waited 2 years to build a damn PC, I don't really want to wait to the point where it brings it nearly to 3 years of waiting.

Get Z270 though, it's got better features at the same price. One month to go!

Oh if Z270 and the i7 7700K are coming out with in the next 3 to 4 months, then yes. I'll get them instead of Z170 and i7 6700K.

Not really worth it to upgrade in my opinion with only an increase of performance by <10% unless there's some major platform improvements that you need like maybe if sata 4 express was invented or something like that.

Got four Sata Express slots with my RAMPAGE V, M.2 SSD Slot so it's fine, it's just the performance and timing that pissed me off.
