Don't worry about what is being released after you build a system. The next CPU's will have a 1-5% improvement at best. Only worry about the market when you are actually in the process of replacing or upgrading your system.

I do not regret getting my 6900K at all. I am also still running i7 930, 3930K and 4770K systems, and they are still fine, it isn't like the release of a new CPU magically makes your current system useless.

There is always new stuff being released. If you worry about it too much you will never buy anything.

Well if you feel this strongly about the issue, you should wait when new releases are near.  Whether they drop a date or not, if you know you're going to be upset about it, just wait.

 

Part of your problem is you're indecisive on whether you want an enthusiast platform or a mainstream platform.  Bouncing back and forth all the time is going to keep you frustrated like you are now.

 

You're currently on an x99 rig, which means that at least for now, you lean towards an enthusiast platform.  The replacement enthusiast platform (Skylake-X) won't be release until the 2nd half of next year.  Not exactly right around the corner and no real reason to be upset with what you currently have.

Just looking for the best deals and price to performance ratios. Like I said, not disappointed with my stuff. I can reach 4.5Ghz on my chip with alright temps, which is pretty good considering it's 6800k, but yeah. I simply hate it when shit gets released literally after I buy stuff. Last time it was the GPU, bought 780 TI before 980 came out, like a month before.

 

Not undecided between mainstream or enthusiast, gaming performance is literally the same and I'm kinda futureproofed also with X99. There are always Xeons and other stuff that can be used later on if needed.

There is no such thing as a Z270 motherboard, non that I can find but a quick googling and find that its for the new Kabylake.

Like I said, none of these things are a surprise when they are released.  I've been planning on a Skylake-X (x99 replacement) build for over 3 months now and it won't even be available until the second half of 2017.

I had a 6800k that I was running at 4.6 GHz.  Nice chip.  I ended up going back to my 5960x, but I did feel like BWE had some nice features.

Selling and upgrading is an option, like mentioned before. It's not something that I will do.

 

Mine can reach 4.6Ghz too but that doesn't mean temps will be good. I only have H115i lol.

I can definitely appreciate your heat concerns.  When I run my 5960x at 4.8 or higher, keeping it cool get to be a lot of fun.  

 

If you think cooling 6 cores sucks, it only get worse with 8 or 10.

At 4.5Ghz I'm at exact 80 under fullest load with all fans cranked up to 100% in my case (and I have a lot of fans) and I'm using Thermaltake X5 Green Riing.

I can imagine temps on 8-10 core. Probably nightmare.

Package is like 84c. The hottest core is 77-78c. That's why I said 80c overall.

At least you're paying attention to what matters.  Package temp is really what you need to watch on HWE and BWE chips.  

 

Either way, you have a nice rig.  Don't get worked up about Kaby Lake.  Skylake-X is going to have some nice surprises.

Haha yeah, the I'm currently running on 4.3Ghz and I will do 4.4Ghz later just to keep it safer later. I will wait, but nonetheless I'm mad. Can't stop following the news though.
