Minors playing M rated games. How do you feel?

I think we also need to realize that maturity and neurology are independent yet tied to one another. Having a good grasp of reality is more important than satiating one's impulses. A child who plays a driving game may find himself desensitized to speeding but good parents usually drive less aggressively. This is an example of passive learning. The brain is forming what is acceptable behavior from something that is not actively taught. I forget what the common psych test is, but it involves someone finding what shape something forms just based on dots and lines. Most kids around the ages of 3-5 are still learning how to interpret the whole picture vs what is immediately visible. The torture scene commonly has Trevor in a happy/uncaring mood while the background shows the other two characters looking away or attempting to avoid the event.

Before most actually live alone and I don't even consider going to some expensive college fraternity with all of it paid by parents, getting out of the bubble of having food, living, study and everything provided by their parents they will not have at least half of the maturity, I mean dealing with salary so you can survive the world will always be the hardest game  

Say you banged someone else mother because you died in games like LoL, BF1, CS:GO and curse the shit out the person becomes something so fruitless; a hardworking adult, either still studying at college or working will be too tired from it's obligations and just want to enjoy the little time there's available to play. You face the online gaming differently than a children who usually only has to attend school and does it poorly.

They end up having way too much free time and become hooked on it like people addicted on drugs, only wanting to enjoy their time and by that they play a lot, like very a lot; becoming bored of it and looking for new ways to have interest on it like the "adrenaline" of an online arguing with someone directly.

Now this is just a view that I have, I study psychology at the university and I've been working as a teacher in public schools, as part of a government thing to promote work for students pay off their debts. I have noticed in classes that every single one is online on smartphones 24/7 and they are all over Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Tumblr etc where there is plenty of unsafe material already either ways...

It is impossible to stop children from reaching material that is rated above their age, and argue whether one should let or not doesn't matter much, the best course of actions is through teaching the children what most be taught so they can handle a game and make sure they are at least doing school fine enough so it becomes a reward and not a habit be hooked up on the desktop.

I will stand by what I said, there are plenty of examples where someone much younger is far more mature than someone say in their 50s.

 

I don't believe incarceration of minors is quite the way to gauge the maturity of a group of people, because the sum of a few doesn't always speak for the whole. Which I guess could be applied to my general disdain for religion, however that is out of the scope for this topic so... 

 

I've known some older people who are very immature for their age, on the flip there are plenty of younger people who are well either very mature or immature for their age as well. It's an individual thing really, which I suppose can relate back to how one was raised.

 

Some people under 20, I believe can make the proper decisions for themselves. 

 

I didn't really like my first job, I didn't walk out or be disrespectful to the management to get out of my employment there. When I verified when my start date at my new job would be, I put my 2 week notice in and did my job as good as I did prior to the notice and came into work like normal, up to when my last scheduled day would be, and end the 3 months of employment I had there in a peaceful manner.

Are there people my age who would leave a job they didn't like in a less appropriate or responsible manner? Certainly. Are there people my age who left their job for another job in a responsible manner like mine? Yes, and that's my point. There are older people who aren't as mature or responsible as some younger people. Age doesn't always gauge maturity or responsibility.

 

I know my example isn't the greatest example. However, my point still should stand that age doesn't always determine the responsibility of an individual.

 

If you look at the statistics of incarcerated youth, they've first hand encountered some terrible things. Real life violence might've made them do whatever they had done. Also, drugs are a huge factor in why youth are in jail.

 

Seemingly for the possession of marijuana, which I at least think should be legalized. Again though, not related to this topic.

Sure, but the connection between age and neurology is very loose considering the amount of variation from person to person. I agree with the rest of your statement though.

I don't mean age and the brain. I mean psychological maturity and the brain. The brain is very plastic and until it is fully developed any changes will be compounded. I think that @Princess Cadence makes a good point with the addiction of video gaming.

The act of gaming will become a source of dopamine as is common with smoking, drinking, etc. and over time the receptors for the enjoyment of the substance are shut down and removed from cells, nerves, and the brain itself. These dopamine receptors can take months to come back, if at all, which is why many addicts are never fully satisfied or return to the abused substance.

Though, loads of shitty things have been done in the name of religion. Does that mean it's inherently bad? No. It doesn't. Again though, it has been the source of many bad things and continues to be a source of many bad things. So do other things, but far often than not is religion used in the name of doing terrible things.

Yay another one of these threads....Im 13. Most people dont know it but I am. As a young child I never touched a violent video game. When I turned 7 I had 2 favourite games. Age of Empires 2, a game with a lot of blood and fighting, and Lego Universe. As you can see, you can like 2 very different things. I loved AoE for its massive amounts of strategy and tactical thinking, making you plan ahead, and I loved the open world aspect of Lego Universe and the fact I was amazing at it. Ive turned out completely fine. Hell, to most people Im a goodie 2 shoes (Im not btw). Now my favourite games are Skyrim, CS:GO, and still AoE 2. I like them for the exact same reasons. I know kids who like these exact same games for the killing but me? I like it for those reasons. Now, Im planning on getting BF1, and Arma 3. Id love to get BF1 because of the beautiful graphics and the historical aspect. Its also super action packed and I LOVE games with flying and driving. I want Arma 3 for those same reasons but even more the tactical aspect of it. How you have to think of everything. Military is a backup career for me and because of my families military influence and me being in Cadets Im very interested in topics related to this. Do liking those games (All M rated) make me an idiotic, drug using, violent teenager? Not at all. Im studying Trigonometry and Advanced functions right now along with chemistry. Ive also never touched a drug, or thought about using one in my life. Ive also only got in 3 fights in my life. 2 because of me lashing out at the people who were bullying me (never do it btw it will make it worse it contributed heavily to my depression because people blamed it all on me), and 1 because my friend was being beat up. If you are someone who wants the games for other than the violence, I think its completely fine.

But still "plenty of examples"? 20, 200, 2000, or even 20,000 is plenty of examples in any situation, but compared to 7 billion people who all had to grow up, those 2Xx become irrelevant. And yes some people are mature for their age I never doubted that. 

 

And you're right still many adults are not "mature" or even capable of functioning as members of society. 

 

But Children (the 99.99r% which we can list as ALL children) are not capable of mentally handling everything going on in an adult mind. Their fragile minds would be broken if loaded with the weight of an adult brains processes.

My first thought was to ignore you post because of your imediate declaration of age, but I pressed on. It takes guts for you to bring your opinions in here with guys like us bashing children, so kudos to you. 

 

I would say though that for you in those circumstances it's more of an outlet. And that's ok, we all need outlets.

 

But at some point in your life you will realize there is more to video games, and I think that's when someone is considered mature enough to play whatever they want. When they can distinquish the line between real stimulation, and fake stimulation. 

 

Games are meant to be a subsidiary benifit of life, not a lifestyle itself. They cannot and will never be able to replace life, yet sadly kids playing violent games, use them as a replacement for the (relatively) "Weak" people they are, when they get bullied in school, talked down to, or even beaten by their parents, into someone who can fight back and stand up for themselves.

And this is a sign of childish behavior. I don't underestimate anyone, in fact I gave him (and you in my , now 2nd, most recent post.) props for giving us his thoughts. I then proceeded to make an argument for my thoughts.  

 

Being able to have a back and forth discussion without taking offense it a slight sign of maturity. I understand their are smart children, I was one of them who grew up playing these M rated games, and turned out fine. But that was because I was able to comprehend the behavior and listen to my parents who reasoned it out with me.

I know exactly what is real and fake. Im not an idiot. I have more than a few brain cells more compared to most kids. And Im not an idiot. Theres a reason I dont have 10000 hours on steam like the rest of my friends. And Ive survived more than a few of these threads and came out victorious so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sure, I think it depends on how define a child as well.

 

Adolescence is different than childhood, it is the intermediary between childhood and adulthood and yes there are often cases where immaturity or irresponsibility or rather lack of mental capacity are still lingering from childhood and may stay with them until adulthood or may never leave. However, it's still or should not the lowest common denominator decides the fate of the whole. That sort of mentality isn't applied to adults, I can understand why it's applied to adolescence but I don't really agree with it but I guess it's the way it is.

You are correct. I agree, thinking ability (or lack thereof) is not fully gone until the early 20's according to some studies.
