  • However, Twitter told Slate, that no one is exempt from their rules - not even the president

  • Twitter’s recently suspended accounts of several leading pundits and activists from the “alt-right,” a pro-Trump movement

    • Linked with notions of white supremacy, white nationalism, and anti-Semitism

  • Asked whether Twitter would consider banning gov’t officials or even the president himself, a company spokesperson responded via email: “The Twitter Rules prohibit violent threats, harassment, hateful conduct, and multiple account abuse

    • When asked if that meant Trump himself could have his account suspended, they replied

    • “The Twitter rules apply to all accounts, including verified accounts”

Source 1: http://petapixel.com/2016/11/28/casey-neistat-beme-app-just-got-acquired

  • Casey Neistat ended his vlog a little over a week ago

  • Is now selling Beme and their 11-person team to CNN for a reported $25 million

  • Beme itself will be going away, but the team will be launching a new video brand under the CNN umbrella

  • “Casey has tapped into nearly six million really powerful viewers, most of which do not tune into CNN,” the global head of CNN Digital told The New York Times

    • “To build this audience authentically, we believe we need to build something new”

  • Speaking to The Verge, Casey Neistat hit on the main challenge that he’ll have to overcome is that there is a “tremendous distrust” between those six million viewers and traditional media

  • The project, whatever it ends up being is scheduled to launch in the Summer of 2017

Source 3: http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016/11/netflix-4k-streaming-pc-kaby-lake-cpu

  • Microsoft announced via its blog that Netflix will stream four new “Gilmore Girls” episodes in 4K

  • The company further notes that you have to use Windows 10, Edge browser, and 7th Generation Kaby Lake processors to watch it on your Windows PC

  • Microsoft introduced “PlayReady 3.0” with the Win 10 Anniversary Update

    • PlayReady 3.0 is a hardware based DRM system that requires dedicated decoding hardware

    • Preventing the video stream from being captured in software or via an external capture device

  • Hardware decoding support for 10-bit HEVC, the 4K codec used by Netflix and other streaming services

    • Currently, only Intel’s seventh generation Kaby Lake processors support 10-bit HEVC decoding

    • Technically NVIDIA’s 10-series graphics cards feature 10-bit HEVC decoding and PlayReady 3.0 support, but aren’t listed as compatible

  • 4K only works in Microsoft Edge, because it’s the only browser that supports PlayReady DRM

Canada Wants Software Backdoors, Mandatory Decryption Capability and Records Storage

Source 1: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/canada-software-encryption-backdoors-fe

  • New Canadian gov’t is looking to further expand its surveillance powers

    • By requiring decryption capabilities for all services, mandatory storage of both internet and phone records for service providers

    • Backdoors that allow interception, and warrantless access to basic subscriber information

  • Last year, Canada passed an “anti-terrorism” law, called Bill C-51

    • This gave new powers to the country’s police and intelligence agencies with little oversight

  • The bill has been criticized for allowing the country’s domestic spy agency, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), to become a “secret police” by extending its powers beyond simple information gathering

  • Also allows 17 agencies to share a wide range of information about Canadian citizens

    • Including medical, financial records, with Canada’s intelligence agencies

  • The gov’t has complained about not being able to intercept some communications

    • And that it should be allowed to use intercept capability against some service providers

  • People can submit their comments on these issues on the government's Public Safety Website

Source 3: http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-38165435

  • Steve Huffman said he engaged in a Reddit taboo

  • Reddit’s rules prohibit the site’s executives from editing comments to alter the site’s community voice

  • Over the Thanksgiving holiday, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman conceded that he violated that directive

    • Some negative comments directed at his username “spez”, were substitued with the names of moderators of a pro- Donald Trump subreddit called “r/the_donald”

    • He stated:

“Hey Everyone,

Yep. I messed with the "f*** u/spez" comments, replacing "spez" with r/the_donald mods for about an hour. It’s been a long week here trying to unwind the r/pizzagate stuff. As much as we try to maintain a good relationship with you all, it does get old getting called a pedophile constantly. As the CEO, I shouldn’t play such games, and it’s all fixed now. Our community team is pretty pissed at me, so I most assuredly won’t do this again.

F*** u/spez.”

TL:DR: He says he adjusted stuff, and apologizes

  • r/pizzagate was a bunch of people convinced that a paedophilia ring involving people at the highest levels of the Democratic Party was operating out of a Washington pizza restaurant

  • This incident is believed to be the first known time an executive from the site has altered comments

  • Even Ellen Pao, the former Reddit CEO, didn’t change comments

    • Despite a barrage of insults levied at her last year as the site began cleaning up its community

Source 2: http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/articles/38154900

  • Twenty-three gamers made complaints saying that the ads didn’t reflect the finished product and were too old

  • Complaints were made specifically about the game's Steam page, where players can purchase and download the game for PC

  • The ASA has rejected these complaints, with their statement reading that:

    • “We understood that the screenshots and videos in the ad had been created using game footage, and acknowledged that in doing this the advertisers would aim to show the product in the best light. [We] considered that the overall impression of the ad was consistent with gameplay and the footage provided, both in terms of that captured by Hello Games and by third parties, and that it did not exaggerate the expected player experience of the game”

  • Previously, Uber only collected data from the user if the rider had the app open

    • Now, if a rider calls for an Uber and closes the app, Uber says it will continue to collect location data up until five minutes after the ride ends

  • Uber says on their website that they do this to “improve pickups, drop-offs, customer service, and to enhance safety”

  • Uber hopes to eliminate the most frustrating part of the experience

  • The update raises worries for privacy advocates

I like this setup way better Linus. Links to what you talk about on your screen. Great.

There is something about Casey that I do not like. He thinks he is cool by dropping shit on the floor. Maybe with his $25M he can afford new glasses.

Why do you guys have so many issues with Windows 10? I've had mine installed since release and had no issues gaming, streaming, anything really... does everyone have issues? I have 5 computers setup for Gaming, Storage and Hyper-V and no issues. (Not trying to be a fanboy, just wanting to know as any of my customers that I help build PCs have yet to complain).
