I have a few Custom BIOS's set up for Air/H2o and LN2 for the 970 G1 cards.

Where'd you get them?  If you didn't make them yourself with your own BIOS, I wouldn't recommend flashing them.

There's like 9 different BIOS for 970 G1's already, and different revisions as well, (I think 3 right now, may be 4)

I flashed a G1 bios the other day that was a different revision than my card, that was not fun at all trying to fix it >.<

Ok so this is cool, I went back to try to beat my GTS 250 with a single OC'd GT 545 and instead of MSI afterburner I just opened EVGA PX and I saw that PX allowed me to increase the voltage. I had the setting enabled in AB but it still wouldn't let me and I wasn't surprised so I didn't check to see if PX would let me. PX let me go from 950mv to 1162mv which increased the OC from 880/1100 to 950/1190 on the primary card and from 880/1100 to 920/1120 on the secondary card so I ran the SLI basic preset again too and I beat my GTS 250 and my SLI GT 545 run. yay

I think that the score increase for my primary GT 545 from the extra OC was pretty dammed impressive, it went from 1061 points at stock clocks to 1385 points OC'd not too bad for a GT card eh?

Keep in mind it's voltage locked at 1.312v no matter what you tell it to do in the bios

Some guys on OCN were messing around with DMM and 1.4v in the bios but the DMM still reads 1.312

Yeah :( I think the stock BIOS on the G1 goes up to ~1.27, so you'll only really be looking at a small boost for any higher end clocks. (Neither of my cards will pull the max @ the highest stable clocks, although I haven't tested in firestrike extreme yet, which will probably pull more.

I think its a bit odd though that a card designed and binned for overclocking is still hard locked, I'm hoping someone will find a way to do a voltage edit like with 7xx series cards for the 970/980

 I agree for sure.

I think it may have to do somehow with how the vrms are designed, because I think every 970 right now has the exact same VRM power design, but some have "better" quality components.

I think all of them are 6+2 or something like that.    I was hoping EVGA or someone would make a 970 that's binned + has a overbuilt VRM, but nobody's done it yet which makes me sad.

Yeah I was gonna do 4k but it doesn't support it at all even with DSR on HDMI or DVI oh well it was fun gonna be doing 3DMark stuff next, then HWBot submissions.

I am a little confused when it comes to ASIC quality though. Would you be able to explain it to me? It just seems to be more of a market gimick than anything with all the explanations floating around on various websites. I was told that high quality is better. However my card can overclock 1592 on the core and (I think 8.332ghz on memory??? 0.o ?) That sounds really off, I get a score of 2083 on afterburner, am I supposed to multiply that by 4 or 3 or something else? But going by the 65% quality that is a pretty high overclock and other cards can't do that even with a higher asic quality.

Is that the kepler version of the 630? if it is I'm disappointed, I thought that would beat my 545.

With electricity, every material has a certain level of resistance, and that resistance needs to be overcome by adding more force (or voltage) behind the charge of electrons (amps). the ASIC quality tells the bios of the graphic card how much voltage the card needs compared to the theoretical design. the VRM's regulate the voltage so that the gpu gets the voltage it needs based on its ASIC score, instead of every card getting the same voltage indiscriminately. In theory a higher ASIC score means better for air cooling, because there is less resistance, and less heat generated as a result (resistance causes heat.. electric heaters work in this manner). Temperatures also effect the resistance, so switching to water cooling automatically lowers the resistance of the gpu, and less voltage is needed to maintain stability.

It's more complicated than this but on a base level it makes sense. ASIC% should not effect overclockability.
