And a graphics card, I used an r7 250

And a power supply. This is because the laptop can't supply 12v on its own

And optionally a 1x riser cable.

 

First, remove your wifi card, or use a secondary mini pcie slot (some laptops have more for cell radios)

 

Then install the adapter.

 

Plug in your PSU with the green and black wires connected, but leave it unplugged from the mains, and connect it to the adapter.

 

Install your graphics card into the adapter, and switch on the PSU at the same time as the laptop, using the riser cable if needed. With luck, the contraption should post.

 

Now plug in an external display, and install graphics drivers. Then run some benchmarks. With luck, you should have everything working.

True. But that is specific to your case. Couldn't you get like a couple foot flexible bridge so you could use just like a Core?

Same concept as the Razer Core. Razer expects you to use a external monitor and keyboard for 'gaming'.

I think that just uses the USB 3.0 cable as an easy extention of the pcie signals, as its a shielded cable with several data lines.

hmmm I have an old c2d laptop and have been planning to do this for quite some time. my problem is I have 2 old laptop displays and have been wanting to turn them into monitors but the hardware I can find for that is either 2 expensive or can't find something that supports the screens...
