Making a GIF as my profile picture

Hi guys!

So umm, I'm trying to upload a GIF to then make as my profile picture but whenever I import from the Imgur URL it says it's over 2MB (Apparently....) and that "gifv" is apparently not a valid format o.O I just downloaded it (The GIF) to my desktop and it says it's 805KB, and 805KB according to Google is 0.805MB ...?

 

And whenever I try to upload it from my desktop, it won't let me upload MP4 files. I would prefer not to use an online converter either just to do MP4>GIF :/

Any solutions?

cant you download it and save it as a .gif?

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

I'm trying to do that but each time I open the image in a new tab, it opens as a .gifv

After you have downloaded file and before uploading it to forums. I don't know if it works, but since they are pretty much same file (you can embed by removing "v" from url) it should work.

What should I do?

Reduce resolution so it would be below 2MB. As far as I know you can do that with most of the "edit gif online" tools.

Yeah, I'd rather avoid using an online piece of software to do so.

It has been a while since I've used imgur's animated functionality, but from memory you can just change the URL extension from .gifv to .gif, and it will give the original gif, which the forum should accept. It's not possible for the forum to support gifv because it is a completely different format, that requires different HTML to implement.

Download a free NLE or photoshop/gimp, throw the gif in there and than save it as a gif with web optimization selected. You may have to tune down a lot of settings, but it'll work

If you're using your google account to login to these forums, you can change your profile picture in google plus and it should show up here as well.

"May your frame rates be high and your temperatures low"

I misread titles/posts way too often--correct me if I don't.
