  1. 1. What is your favorite pc case form factor?

    • ATX

    • Micro-ATX
      4
    • Mini-ITX

    • Anything else/proprietary

So I'm kinda curious what others on this forum prefer in terms of case and mobo form factors.

See I like ATX mostly but ITX is also pretty interesting. mATX is kinda in that weird spot I think. Because you know it's smaller than ATX because that's what it is meant to be is a smaller version of ATX but it's bigger than ITX so if you want a small PC you're not likely going to go mATX, you're probably going to go all the way down to ITX.

mATX exists in many builds because it's smaller than ATX and cheaper than ITX. I prefer ITX, and finding ways to make impossibly small builds :P (in my head)

ITX, because IMO they're the most interesting and innovative of builds, and ITX is all I have room for.

mATX is a much older thing than mITX, so it used to make sense. To some degree it still does, as it allows for big performance in a much smaller package than ATX.

ITX Fully watercooled builds and also SSI EEB,gotta love my 2x Xeon E5-2699V4

Huh interesting a lot of love for ITX. Re-assuring to my changes in plans for the build I'm wanting to do for sure.

Love e-ATX and cases as big as the corsair 780t because of the greater airflow and usually X99 mobos so support for more pci-e lanes and 2011-3 cpus

Interesting way of looking at it. Multi GPU set up or?

Yeah ITX was introduced in 2001 so I guess I can understand why mATX is kinda becoming a dying species.

If you wanted to do two way CF or SLI or have an add in card mATX allows that, mITX doesn't.

Even though ITX was introduced a long time ago, it wasn't until very recently (as in within the last 4 years or so) that it was popularised for consumer use.

Eh nevermind the poll.

@keNNySOC Well in certain cases it should be fine in others Air flow will be really tight.

Depends what case as we said, but always get the best case you can for the money you got,you can't expect a 900D inside a stomach sized case...

This is difficult to answer but here is my reply:

I like xlATX because multi cpu systems facinate me but i also like mini-itx because it opens up the door to some amazingly powerfull lan-party friendly machines.

All my builds have been ATX in a mid tower case. Thats like the sweet spot I think. I like having many expansion slots and good airflow without having a gigantic case.

Ive been thinking about building a mini itx pc for the longest time, but those components are somewhat hard to get where I live.

I want to know what form factor you chose to build your last system around. Maybe you went tiny with Mini-ITX or even Mini-STX. Perhaps you're a midsize fan and went microATX. Or—like I imagine is the case for many TR readers—you stuck to the traditional path and chose a plain old ATX motherboard and case. Whatever the case may be, tell me about the size of your last system using the poll options above.

I went with an H440 although if I could redo things I would definitely go with a Node 202 instead.

This is a go to for me as well. I wanted something this small when I was planning my rig a few years ago. I was going to go with one of the tiny silverstone HTCP cases and a half height card, but it wasn't beneficial long term. Now that I want to move everything to a NAS, it may be convenient for me to go as small as humanly possible.

Micro atx because it was quite a large savings on the motherboard and I wanted a my gpu to be upright rather than hanging on its side due to it's fatness

Core v21

(next PC will be wood or random sheet metal since I'd rather just make my own)
