CPU Throttling like a mad man!

HELP!

My cpu won't stop throttling... I have a fx-6300 OC'ed at 4.5 ghz... The problem is, it won't stop throttling... It keeps going down to 1400 mhz every 30 seconds... I have check powermanagenemt to make sure that isn't the problem... And I have turned off both AMD cool'n'quiet and cou smart protection in the BIOS, but it stills keep throttling... My temps are fine btw, never over 60 (it was running at 70+ with the standard cooler and stock speed before I started overclocking (using an evo-cooler). 

HELP! It's messing up my aim in csgo:(

I'm using open hardware monitor... but you can notice every drop very easily.... Everything gets sloooooooooooooow.... surfing, gaming... i will go from 200fps in csgo to about 30....

Did you disable APM in the bios also?, that board doesn't have the best power delivery either, could be vrms throttling.

Your motherboard has no VRM heatsinks plus it only has a 4+1 power phase design. You shouldn't be overclocking on this motherboard, it's a wonder it hasn't died yet. Get a better motherboard if you want to overclock. Every cheaply made mobo has this problem, inlcuding mine.

AMD's official max voltage is 1.55.

Application Power Management, its what throttles clock speeds, and changes voltages for turbocore.

Then can you explain how I could run with this overclock for about a year and then all of a sudden it starts throttling?

Can have several reasons, it's summer in the northern hemisphere; so more heat, dust buildup. Or your components have started degrading because of the overclocking. Could easily be all of those things. Electromigration is also a factor.

I agree, the problem points towards the motherboard.

• 4+1 VRM phase count
• NOT heatsinked VRMs
• "Known for problems?" -- Yes
• Transistor Info -- 4 transistor, DPAK FETs
• This motherboard initially "supported" the FX-8350 / FX-8320 and a few other 125W (or higher) TDP chips, but MSi eventually dropped them from CPU support list

Funny thing is, I also have a cheap mobo with a 3+1 power phase design and it still lists 125W TDP CPUs as supported http://asrock.com/mb/AMD/960GMU3S3 FX/?cat=CPU while my FX-6300 can barely run at its turbo clock speed. It's like they want motherboards to blow up and let out some magic smoke while they're at it.

I found, that one of the temps on the mb goes to about 100C when it starts throttling, so I guess the cpu isn't the problem... I will look for some fans and see if that helps... thx ppl.

Yea your VRM solution could be going, which would explain the throttling because the VRM's have to dial back when they hit too high of a temp (at least that's the idea, a number of times they just start on fire.)

That would be the VRM's. As mentioned previously.

Ooosh, I heard bad about that board. Please don't overclock with the 970 serious of boards, just buy a new board or reset CMOS... (If you want to overclock)

Or! you can just try lower the overclock, I don't think you need a overclock If you're playing a game like Counter-Strike

Thanks for all the replies! I seem to have found a solution: It was the VRM that was overheating. I'm on a budget when it comes to gaming (still a student) so I don't have the option to buy a new MB. However; a simple deskfan pointing towards the MB have  saved my day... Instead of the VRM running at 100C+ i'm now at a more reasonable 69C when stress-testing the cpu. I think I will go like this for some time (a year left of school) and then get me a new MB and CPU (maybe zen??) and a proper case with fanzy fans and stuff...
