No one knows. It's not even certain whether there will be a 1080 Ti.

I feel like I say this in every thread, but a 1080 Ti is not a given. Nvidia probably wants to sell Titan XPs for as long as they can. They'll only sell that a cut-down version of GP102 if they have to, which in the past usually meant they had to counter an AMD release.

 

The 980 Ti released within a day or two of the R9 Fury X, because otherwise the Fury X would've looked pretty damned good against a $1,000 Titan X.

there is litteraly no info yet, we dont even know if one will ever exist or anything like that

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

it' probably not coming out until AMD pull their heads out of their asses and offer nvidia some competiton...no reason for nvidia to gift us with the GTX 1080ti at this point since they have no competition at this performance level, and neither do they on the two other tier bellow...you want that level of performance now? it's 1200$.

There have only been two ti, the 780ti and 980ti. The 980ti came out because of the Fury X. And the 980ti cut WAY into Titan X sales. So the only reason Nvidia would do that again is if there was competition. So ask again when there's competition.

there hasn't been that many generations in xxx naming scheme

it's about naming scheme, you know...

we had 590 and 690 before that

Pretty sure, it will be around early 2017.

Nvidia already has a Monopole in the 400+ section. AMD has NOTHING to go against a GTX 1070, 1080, and the Titan X now.

Nvidia has no reason to release the 1080 ti, since that will be their last high end gaming card (probably similar Performance of a titan, just less pricy, and more suitable for gamers). That way, Nvidia don't have any more Cards left to play.

 

They can sit back and wait for AMD to release their Vega. Once they know Vega's Specs (Fury/Fury X successor), they can either release the 1080 ti as a counter, or tweak the card a bit. Like, higher Power target, Clock speed, Vram etc, to match the new Fury X.

 

At least... that's what i would to marketing-wise.

The 590 and 690 aren't like the 780 Ti or 980 Ti. The x80 Ti cards are upgraded x80 cards, the x90 cards are two x80 cards on a single PCB. Very different.

Yes, they are. What I mean by upgraded is they're the next single card above an x80 card. The x90 cards are not the next single card above an x80 card, they're two x80 cards.

In the 1080's case, yes, for the moment. If they release a 1080 Ti (which I'm not sure they will) then it will slot in between the 1080 and Titan XP.

However, in other card's cases, it was only one step above until the Ti came along.

Example: 980 came out, Titan X came out one step above 980, then 980 Ti came out and made the Titan X two steps above the 980.

maybe it'll slot above the TX ?

It's all speculation at this point. Traditionally x80 Ti has been below Titan, but it might not be in this case given that not even the existence of the card is confirmed.
